Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says there is no need for a foreign player quota in England as the home-grown players are good enough.England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008 prompted what Ferguson describes as "hysteria" and a long-running inquest into their dismal campaign, with many commentators claiming a lack of English talent has been caused by the number of foreign players employed by teams.
But the Scot said: "There has been some criticism in the media of the Premier League with a call for quotas to guarantee English players starting places in teams.
"I did not start the final of the Champions League with six Englishmen because I was making a political statement. I did it because they're good enough to win the European Cup."
He added: "It is nonsense to say that England does not have players capable of competing on the international stage.
"The hysteria surrounding England's non-qualification for Euro 2008 does not create the right atmosphere for good decision-making."

What's that scotish pisshead Ferguson know about the English players good enough to play for England. Get back to the bottle you haggis eating @#$% and leave us alone.
Good talk and probably, d best judgement to have come out of Sir Alex Ferguson. So I strongly believe England's non qualification for d Euro championship was not because of foreigners in d Premiership, but for their lack of concentration on d pitch against Croatia. Quota system would not promote the diversity attached with the beautiful game.

re Football's Fanatic:
a) Manchester United are not the richest club in the world - they are 700 million IN DEBT!
b) To give greedy clubs their overvaluation of players, would only encourage teams to rip united off in the future
c) Berbatov is a class player but 35 million is a waste of at least 10-15 million by today's transfer standards. (Deco to chelsea for only 10 million, anyone?) United are right not to give in to their ludricous asking price.
d) Manchester United got christiano ronaldo, anderson and nani for a combined fee of less than what spurs are asking for for Berbatov. Who says spending big on one player is the answer? Veron and Shevchenko certainly didn't justify the big spending mentality....
I wouldn't let you run my finances, that's for sure.
I agree with Fergie about this topic.....
But I want to say that Man United is stingy.....
They are the richest club in the world....
But when the price of the player that they want to buy is higher than the price that they bid, they stop to buy the player.....
I think if you are the richest club in the world, it is not a problem to buy an expensive player.....
Why become so stingy?????
Just agree with the price and you will get them....
You do not buy ten players but just only one player.....
I think it's reasonable to buy just one player with more than 20 mil pound....
Why become so STINGY?????
Wise take from Fergie on a stupid call for quota. Wherever born good players will always rise to the top. Unfortunately, most of the good players are not English right now. Efforts should be made to make English players more skillful and the best way is exposure to talents from elsewhere.
great talk fergie dats why ur d best
