Jeffrey de Visscher admits he questioned the wisdom of his move to Aberdeen during an inconsistent first season at Pittodrie. The Dutch winger struggled to adapt to the Scottish game following his switch from De Graafschap, who he had helped win promotion to Holland's top flight.
Several injury problems hindered his bid to improve his fitness and he failed to nail down a regular place when he was available.
However, the 27-year-old found his form towards the end of the season and he believes he is now set to show his true colours.
"I do feel I am ready to give it my best shot this season," de Visscher told the Dons' official website.
"I remember last year, I could not walk after three days' pre-season. This year, though, pre-season went by easily, all the running stuff, so I think I have become stronger.
"Football-wise, it is still a very different game from the one we play back in Holland."
But he added: "I feel I am more prepared for the matches this campaign. Everything last season was very new.
"I will be honest and say last season there were a few times when I wondered if I had made the right decision about coming to Scotland, going to a foreign country.
"I am happy with my choice though. Aberdeen is a great club to play for."
Aberdeen had a rollercoaster season last term, with their run to the UEFA Cup group stages tempered by a struggle to make the SPL top six.
Dons fans had two cup semi-finals to look forward to - but saw their team ship eight goals in crushing defeats.
However, they ended well with a late SPL run securing fourth spot and de Visscher aims to go one better with the help of a good start at home to Inverness on Saturday.
"I know the fans got disappointed a few times last season, understandably, but for the players it was an okay season," he said.
"Two semi-finals, playing some great games in Europe against some of the biggest teams and we finished fourth in the league, which was not too bad.
"Losing two semi-finals was hard though, especially the Queen of the South game. That is still in the minds of all the players who were here last season.
"The gaffer has already given us the aim this season of picking up our European tickets by hopefully finishing third.
"We need to get off to a good start, unlike last season where we were playing catch up the whole time. Hopefully we can start in the top half after a few games and stay there."
