Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott will be without Steve Thompson for the League Two opener against fellow new boys Luton on Saturday afternoon. The forward has failed to shake off a hamstring injury sustained during pre-season and Sinnott is refusing to use the former Middlesbrough youngster until he is fully fit.
New signings John McCombe and Sam Stockley will shore up a Vale defence which conceded 72 goals last season.
Fellow new arrivals Rob Taylor, Anthony Griffith, Steve Thompson, David Howland, Louis Dodds and Lee Collins are all set to play a part in Sinnott's new-look Vale side as they attempt an immediate return to League One.
