Fears have been expressed over the future of Liverpool's bid to sign Gareth Barry as the club's ownership battle threatens to flare up again.
The fact the club's American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, have yet to produce the promised short-term loan to allow boss Rafael Benitez to complete the £18million transfer has promoted speculation the deal could soon be dead.
Benitez has waited all week for money to be put in place to allow him to end the Barry saga before he sells any more players to fund the deal.
But the longer the delay, the more likely it becomes that Benitez could be forced to abandon the long-drawn-out deal.
The failure to produce funds which Benitez expected a week ago has prompted long-term suitors Dubai International Capital to let it be known they are still waiting in the wings with their own proposals for the club.
A source close to DIC said: "Just because it is has been a quiet summer does not mean DIC have lost interest. They are happy that things have now become low key, and they are awaiting developments."
And there is also speculation a former prospective buyer of the club, and several rich American-based Liverpool fans, have let it be known they are prepared to help the club out of their cash problems.
Observers believe plans for the new stadium have as yet not included confirmed building contracts or the lease being agreed with the local council.
The club's owners are also going to have to find cash soon to fund the stadium as well as re-finance the current loans.
A Liverpool Council spokesman explained the current situation over the lease for Stanley Park, claiming it should be signed in a month.
He said: "It is normal legal procedure for companies to wait three months after the granting of planning permission before signing the lease.
"This is because under planning laws, the public have a right of appeal for three months after the planning permission is given.
"We expect the lease on Stanley Park to be signed in a matter of weeks."
But the delay over the Barry deal is beginning to embarrass Liverpool. As soon as it was suggested the American owners were looking to borrow money to fund the deal, there were City sources - admittedly close to the DIC bid - who insisted borrowing would be difficult in the current climate.

I've no gripes with Liverpool fans or the club, but Clairepritch's comments are wildly inaccurate. We don't BLINDLY worship the guy, he has made money available for players just as soon as MON decides to spend......£30 Million is available if the Manager requires it. Randy Lerner integrates with the fans as much as he can, he also takes a great interest in the City as a whole....so much so that he has offered free Advertising to the Acorns Childrens Hospice on the team shirts instead of raking in Sponsorship money.
He is also a MULTI-Billionaire, which is still a lot of money despite the Dollar against the Pound Rate....hardly a small fish.
The Gareth Barry saga has simply become a scrap between two Managers who obviously are looking to score Brownie points at the others expense...the fee involved in irrelevant i think, its become an issue of stubborn pride to each of them.
It is'nt a crime to have a bit of respect to the owner of your Club, we are smiling because our own Club is being put in order....My God, we suffered under Doug Ellis for years!
Its great that you've won 5 European Cups, we've only won it once....but time moves on and counts for nothing as far as a new Season is concerned.
Both Liverpool , Villa, and a host of other clubs need to break the stranglehold that is gripping the Premiership...its become so predictable now, for the sake of good competitive Football i hope that we all see changes at the top soon.
Good luck to the Reds this Season, I hope that both teams are right up there come the end of the Season...the Premiership needs it!
we dont need barry we have plenty of ppl who can play left def
arbeloa, aurelio and dossena
we have benayoun and babel who can play left wing and stevie as are centre imean whose better then stevie
we also have mascherano and alonso and lucas if we need him
here no room for barry here
i think we need wide players like silva!
buy silva!
getting gareth barry to anfield is a must for liverpool, they would be my teams (man u)closest challengers next season with him along with the other class players they have, with arsenal probably suffering from selling to many key players, and the chelsea stars constantly whingeing about how it never goes right for them, i think liverpool and utd can make this a season to remember and revive that old rivalry that footballs all about, so cmon yanks front the money and make this an exciting campaign
GOD BLES AMERRICAR SEND THEM BACK WHERE THAY CAME FROM AND BRING IN SOME ONE WHO UNDER STANDS FOOTBALL NOT THE LIKES OF THEM TWO IDIOTS THAY ALL TALK A LOT OF @#$% WHAT A LOT OF IT TWO. BUT YOU CAN NOT EXSPECED NOTHING ELES FROM TO YANKEY IDIOTS .WHO NO NOTHING ABOUT THE GAME OF FOOTBALL A STRONG LIVERPOOL FAN FOR EVER

Why is it the Villa fans keep saying that they are so happy with their american billionaire owner? firstly he is only a billionaire in american dollars wich are worth roughly half the value of the british pound so over here in britain he is not a billionaire just another small fish in a big pond which brings me on to the second fact which is that he has done absolutley nothing for your club what so ever ok so he doesn't cause controversy instead he sits in the shadows spending no money on players or on the club and for this the villa fans worship him blindly but I guess this is why you've been a mid table club for so long and won nothing in a very long time. So before you start pointing the finger at LFC perhaps you should think about getting your own house in order. Can you say 5 times european champs?
Here we go again. Another season of owners arguing. I wish they would just pull the pin and let someone who seems genuinely interested in the club take over. I, like most Liverpool supporters, wish to see results on the field not more arguments between our owners. The Americans always seem to have to dramatise everything.
All of you slagging off Buda. He wasn't claiming that all people from Dubai are terrorists, simply that he suggests that what the moaning Liverpool fans would say if DIC took over LFC and it didn't work out.
They'd be heroes one minute for saving the club from the Americans and then the scum of the earth (as far as the fans would be concerned) if it all went wrong.
Shut up buda... Wat the hell you tinking about... nothing to do with terrorist... All of us human.. not in dubai.. but maybe in u.s also have terrorist... we don't know.. Clean your mind...
They should both the US, americans know nothing about football, their version of FOOTball consists of using mostly your HANDS, it reminds me of another sport what is it, oh yeah rugby what they do is american rugby or wuss rugby, Americans try to cange everything to their will, luring Beckham who lets face it had a good 2~3 years of top flight European football, but money brought him their not the love of the game.
We have Alonso, Gerrard, Mascherano, Lucas, Spearing, Plessis in our center we don't need Barry
Liverpool should buy Schweinsteiger, Silva or swipe Walcott from arsenal get some wide players.
also shut up 'buda' you sound like a right tit trying to be clever when your clearly just a sad git who is trying to take the moral highground.
Fred, may i firstly suggest that it is a common misconception that we are skint! we have spent the most on transfers out of any club in the world this summer if you include the mascherano purchase, let alone the money needed for the stadium. Also our owners may be american and it would be better if they were dedicated scousers but i beleive it is better than the DIC company. We would become like manchester with lots of cooperate fans and lose the atmosphere at anfield. i believe we should hang on to the americans who are giving us suffecient funds untill we can find a true fan. maybe me in a few years...
Yanks are controlling my beloved Club!!!!!!
Money money money

What about the Fans worldwide
Money money money

has gone on to long and barry must be fed up with is it on or not when the moores were
in control transfers were not aproblem
SKINT
Love it, music to my ears
Good! We don't want Barry! We want a winger!
I didn't know there was so many prejudice bigots who support Liverpool. Your owners are idiots but not because they're American, just because they're idiot business men. So I guess when the Dubai business men buy your club and things don't work out for you guys you'll be complaining that the reason you guys have problems is because your owned by terrorist. I can only imagine what you guys would say if an Asian or Irish business man bought your club. I guess you'd go from prejudice bigots to racist prejudice bigots and you guys can all have tea with Blater and discuss how you miss the days of slavery. So go and throw away everything you own that's American (especial if it was made in China), including music, clothes and go listen to your boys play over the radio since your t.v. and computer are problem from America or Asia as well.
