West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has come under fire over the Freddie Ljungberg debacle.
The 31-year-old Swedish midfielder was reportedy given a £6million pay-off earlier this week to rip the remaining two years of his contract and leave the club.
Having paid the Gunners £3million for Ljungberg last summer and then giving him in the region of £80,000 per week, his 25 games for the club came at a cost of nearly £400,00 an outing.
"It's the manager and his management team who are responsible for paying out the player's salary," co-owner Asgeir Fridgeirsson told The Sun.
"It is their judgment about how to use the money they paid to Ljungberg in a wiser way.
"We all have our personal opinion about Freddie and his efforts for this club."

Slavan Bilic has the passion & desire to suceed, just what we need, West Ham board need to wake up, as we fans have been the laughing stock for too long.
Curbs it is time to go, thanks for what you have not done & goodbye.
This is proof that Curbs cannot (and should not) spend money in the transfer market, the reason Nani was brought in. Now get rid of this @#$% and get someone with european experience in fast!!!!
curbishley must take majority of blame he tells board who to sign and has influence on wages etc; its another example of bad management and his buys for thic club. to many on large wages for average players, Neil, Boa Morte, Quashie, Parker,Dyer. He must go before we end up like 2-3 seasons ago, facing financial ruin.
