Kim, a professional from suburban Los Angeles, edged into his first World Series of Poker final table at his fifth year of trying.
The graduate from the University of California-San Diego, had two cashes last year after making his debut at the WSOP in 2003.
Korean born Kim, who tok up the game in 1995, has over $300,000 in winnings with his biggest coming at the 2006 LA Poker Classic where he finished third for $62,201 and 17th in the World Poker Tour event for $46,502.
With 13 players remaining, Kim had the smallest stacj but he managed to play a defensive game and watch others around him implode to make the final table.
He says: "It'll be different if I had 15 million chips, my expectations are low. I know I'm a huge underdog and I know I need to get lucky. I'm a tremendous favourite to finish ninth and so I'm just in it for the ride. The fact that I'm still alive is enough for me. I'm not going to move in on the first hand, I'm a very good short stack player."
