Roger Federer will resume his career just over a month after his historic 15th Grand Slam triumph, after announcing that he will make his return at next week's Montreal Masters.
After his twin girls were born last month, questions began to grow as to whether the new father would make the trip across the Atlantic so soon after his wife, Mirka, gave birth.
But the Swiss star, who turns 28 on Saturday, put minds at ease with an announcement on his website.
"After the wonderful experiences over the past days it is my pleasure to inform you that I will be participating in the Rogers Cup in Montreal," Federer said. "I'm happy to be back competing and sharing my passion.
"As I was able to find enough time to practise these past weeks I must say that I feel fit and full of energy. It is a bit strange not to have played for a longer period - five weeks in total this time."
Federer won the Canadian event, which alternates between Montreal and Toronto with a WTA event, in 2004 and 2006.
He also currently holds all the Grand Slam titles bar the Australian Open with his success at Wimbledon beating Pete Sampras's previous record of 14 Grand Slam titles.
The Montreal tournament will also see the return of world number two Rafael Nadal.
The Spaniard has been off the tour since being upset by Robin Soderling in the fourth round at the French Open in May. It was his first defeat at Roland Garros where he had been the four-time champion.

I am happy that Federer has taken his latest status of fatherhood in his strides and is full steam to compete at Montreal. I wish him and his family the best of health and spirits. Further, it goes without saying that he will get the fullest support and encouragement from Mirka , as she was herself a tennis player. And who can understand him better than his own wife who has been a pillar of strength to him? Godspeed. Old Man.

Great photo Roger of you Mirka and the twins.Good luck in this weeks tournament hope you play Rafa in the final.
haaaaaaaappppppyyyyyyyy birthday my only 1 my 4ever number 1
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROG!
HE WILL BE A BIT RUSTY IN MONTREAL AFTER 5 WEEKS OUT, SPECIALLY BECAUSE HE HADN'T PRACTISE MUCH LATELY, BUT I BELIEVE HE WILL WIN THERE.
C'MON ROG!!
i believe the pride Roger has gained from having twins will motivate and inspire him to even greater success for the remainder of the season.
I feel sorry for Federer's children - so young and already getting dragged around tennis courts and people planning their futures. They may not even like tennis although they may have no option but to go and watch their dad when they get older. But as anyone who has had children knows there is no way young children will sit for hours watching long tennis matches. It's totally irresponsible to drag new born babies half way round the world just because dad wants another win.
Congatulations to both of you ,ROGER & MIRKA for your healty twins & HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDSLAM KING goodluck on your cameback after you great success in RG & Wimbledon. GODBLESS.
Just seen the draw for Montreal. It's the most unfair draw I've ever seen. Why are all the in-players at this moment in time all bunched up in RF's bottom quarter and in Rafa's quarter? We've got Murray, Chardy, Hewitt, Safin, Gonzalez, Berdych, Haas, Karlovic and Davydenko all in one quarter. Poor Rafa's got Del Potro, Melzer, Kohlschreiber, Soderling, Robredo, Querry, Troicki and Ferrer. Seems they want a Roddick - RF final and nobody will be willing on Andy more than me.
Why does Roger's left arm look weird......?
Happy birthday Rog!
man, if only he won the Aussie Open, he would've had a great chance at a Grand Slam
Happy birthday Roger!!!
I also agree!
well said TransInc. I agree!
re #16 + 17 and remeber how he was also so apologetic for winning the aussie open?
nadal is a real gentleman as is federer. i really don't understand why so many people feel they have to hate one an love the other instead of feeling lucky to be able to watch two such superb athletes competing against each other with such different styles of tennis
Roger.. Are you carrying Charlene Riva or Myla Rose?!!
wish you all the best champ!
dude thats a heart warming picture! congrats mirka and roger! may both your sucesses pass down to them. god bless
Antony, Rafa isn't horrible though and that's what counts. Who cares about his other fans but I'm not horrible and I'm one. In fact he's the most humble and generous player of them all. Remember when he apologised to RF after winning Wimby?
Nadal fans are horrible people.Nadal cant win any tornament again cos he's finish.Montreal will be a disgrace
to him. He was only lucky in 2008
Comment No.4. Soderling is not God, all he can do is win tin pot tournaments and pretend he wouldn't change them with a grand slam. Nadal was already injured in RG, he just didn't mention it because it would sound like an excuse. As for Soderling, you'll never see him in a GS final again, not even in a Master 1000 final. Probably quarter finals is as far as he can get.
