The star names of Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy stumbled out of the Players Tour Championship event in Sheffield on a busy day of play.

Robertson, currently the world number two following his victory at the Crucible earlier in the year, lost 4-2 to Welshman Dominic Dale in the last 64.

Murphy had already succumbed in the previous round, beaten 4-3 by the unheralded Martin O'Donnell. Twice world champion Mark Williams also fell 4-1 to Ian Glover.

Dale and fellow old stager Andy Hicks progressed to the last 16 and will meet for a place in the quarter-finals.

The three day event, Event 3 of a new series at Sheffield's World Snooker Academy, concludes tomorrow with the remaining sixteen players in the draw playing up to four rounds of knock-out snooker.
