France won the final gold medal on offer at the Beijing Olympics by beating Iceland in the men's handball final.
The Nordic island team were bidding for their country's first ever Olympic gold, but were beaten 28-23 by Les Bleus
Nikola Karabatic was the match's top scorer with eight goals for France, while goalkeeper Thierry Omeyer made nine saves in the first half to send his side into the break 15-10 to the good, and that five-goal advantage was maintained throughout the rest of the match.
Despite losing out on gold, Iceland's solitary silver medal still represents their best performance at an Olympics since 1956. Their total Olympic medal haul now stands at two silver and two bronze.
Spain won the bronze medal match against Croatia 35-29.
