Slaven Bilic has allegedly ordered Croatia to target England striker Wayne Rooney as they bid to gain revenge for the 4-1 defeat in Zagreb last year.
Rooney (pictured) is renowned for his fiery temper and Croatia scout Goran Vucevic told Bilic that, as England's key player, he must be stopped at all costs if they are to prevent England from sealing automatic qualification for the World Cup (Daily Mirror).
Bilic is a sly dog and has decided that, rather than try to play him off the park, his team would be better served by winding Rooney up.
And it has started already - Croatia's Schalke midfielder Ivan Rakiti called him a diver after he won a penalty against Slovenia, moaning "how can they say Eduardo is a diver when Rooney does this?"
The general view is that Aaron Lennon will get the nod over Shaun Wright-Phillips for England's clash with Croatia on Wednesday (Mail).
The Sun joined Tony Adams in insisting that Emile Heskey should start over Jermain Defoe, because Heskey will bully the Croats while Defoe is just as effective as a sub as he is starting.
The Spurs winger will be unleashed in the same way Theo Walcott was in the 4-1 win in Zagreb. Manchester City's Wright-Phillips failed to impress in England's friendly win over Slovenia at the weekend.
Back to the buying, loaning and alleged stealing of players, Manchester City are "worse than Chelsea" when it comes to nicking youngsters, or so say Rennes, furious at how they signed Jeremy Helan.
Manchester United wanted to buy him in 2008, but Rennes held firm over a fee before Helan moved against their will. You can read the full story by clicking on the link under the photo.
Everton are said to be fuming at the £500,000-plus fee they were ordered to pay Leeds by an FA tribunal for schoolboy left-back Luke Garbutt (Daily Mail).
Garbutt only turned 16 in May and Everton offered what they thought was a fair £200,000. But, after Leeds described it as "paltry", the Toffees were told they had to pay up to £1m, including add-ons for first-team appearances.
With the transfer window largely shut for Premier League clubs, the only possible moves can be outgoing loans to the Championship and below, and incoming free transfers.
Stoke defender Carl Dickinson is one man who could be dropping down a division as he bids for first-team football (Mail), and team-mate Leon Cort could be on his way to Nottingham Forest (Daily Star).
Wolves' Wales striker Sam Vokes could be farmed out to Newcastle, Middlesbrough or Derby.
Bolton could also let defenders Nicky Hunt and Danny Shittu go out on loan after proposed permanent moves this summer failed to materialise (Daily Star).
It seems that one man who will be not be signing for a Premier League club is former Millwall, Blackburn and West Ham defender Lucas Neill - while the Daily Mail's claims that he had signed for Atletico Madrid were not confirmed by either party, the other offer on the table is a lucrative contract for an Arab club.
Steve Coppell could be tempted back into football sooner than thought with now-stable Southampton rumoured to be offering him a directorial role (Daily Mail).
Coppell quit Reading in the summer but pal Alan Pardew is in charge at Saints while former Reading assistant Wally Downes was appointed defensive coach.

Croatia stands no chance in this match. Croatian team is a good team but not good enough to beat England this time. Especially keeping in mind that overrated Modric is not playing. This English team is a much better and more chesive team and will not underestimate Croat side. I think we are looking at a 3:1 England's win tonight. Personally I can not stand that arrogant @#$% Rooney but I am huge fan of English football because of players like Terry, Lampard, Gerard etc..
Good luck to both teams!!
You said "lifestyle". Yes this is why Brazilians and Italians can win the tile but not England, at least not now. You mean fewer kids play football now, and this is why England football are going from "Good" to "not that Good"? Well, Im saying England football are going from "Bad" to "Worse", becasue English national team had never been "good" enough in the past 20 years. How many time have we naively started talking about winning the titles before the events start? And how many times have we been humiliated by some "unexpected", "shocking" defeats. We need to be realistic and face squarely to these "records", and admit that we are not good enough, yet. This is the motivation for us to be struggling desperately to get better, instead of the self-deceptions like "we are just not lucky". Dropping the ball once in cricket might mean you are not lucky; dropping the ball 10 times means you suck in cricket!
Slaven Bilic = Genius, lets hope the Croatia players duly follow the order!
I meant the Germans !!! So basically what you are saying is, England cannot win the world cup because all the players in the epl are foreign, England have a very good set of players where most of the first team would play for any of the other int teams,
you seem to forget football is big business and maybe the downturn in quality youngsters coming through the ranks is due to the lifestyle, kids just don`t play football like they used to. There is more opportunity now which gives kids a chance to become pros with football acadamy`s all over the place set up by clubs but the talent is not as good as it was so basically youre talking @#$%.
This is exactly what Im syaing. Italy won the title with no stars, becasue of a lottery-winning good luck. The luck is so good that even now some ppl are still talking about the so-called conspiracy where italy won abnormally. If you see one the newspaper someoen winning the lottery, and you start buying lotteries crazily, Im telling you mate, you will end up being a bin dipper. So what should you do? Yes! use the money to get some education and make yourself more qualified!!! This is what England need to do right now. Forget about the world cups in the next 10 years; have more English players in the top teams of the league; more investment into young player raising up schemes. If all the stupid clubs could throw 1% more of all the outrageously high transferr fees into young player schemes, the England squad wouldn't have been so trash now.
AND WHAT PLAYERS WERE THEM SEXYBEAST ? England will have a chance to win the world cup as will Spain etc, what superstars have Spain got ? they have very good players same as England but play much better as a team, Exactly what Capello is trying to get England to do... don`t you think ??
sexy.beast08, who are the Italian superstars when they won the last world cup? The most known is the lazy Totti who was there in the previous world and European championships and did sweat f*** all. Their real superstar was the coach, Lippi.
Germany did have super stars when they won titles 20 years ago and earlier. So did Italy. But look at how germany was deliberately beaten by Brazil in the 2002 world cup final. Italy in 2006? Come on, you won't forget their last-minute penalty against Australia and the guy that was "almost killed" by Zidone's bold head, will you? We can't rely on some kind of speculation. If that is the case, then chinese would have reasons to be believe they can win world cup as well. We need REAL QUALITY!!! more talented players!!! not quantity, quality!!!
SexyBeast08 Your comment in a way makes no sense, as how many times has Ronaldo won with Portugal, Messi with Argentina, Brazil has always been great team, but the problem is not being able to dance around players, Italy Don't, Germany Don't and both have great World Cup records.
isnt it time us English remember what supporting your team really means ... ie whether good or bad .. you support them..... whether win or loose ... you support them ..... we are a tiny little country with a small small chance of actually competing in this World cup ..... Support our boys ... support your country .... and if either of those things are a challenge to you .... change the team you (allegedly) support ... c'mon people its time to follow our teams lead .. positive and upbeat ... Not writing 'us' off b4 we even actual get there !! ... I hope all you 'anti' English remember just how frail your support was if we actually do anything at this World cup .. But something tells me you will very soon be parading round in your England shirts telling the world you are a true England supporter .....
Is'nt it nice to see that the traditional sporting element in football is being upheld by Slaven Bilic. Why are we not hearing the voices we hear from the worlds so called Football Associations condemning his remarks to rile Rooney to get him to react in temper with the sole view of getting him sent off. It shows that these biased Associations would like to see England the most sporting team in the competition eliminated by fair means or foul. They will always back the actions of people like Bilic as they hate to see England having any success in the competitions. Even a remark like this from Bilic, his Croatian scout Goran Vucevic and the actions of the Croatian midfielder Rakiti who has started already to follow Bilics instructions to wind Rooney up should be enough to have Croatia banned from taking part in what is supposed to be a sporting competition.
Did you not see how Jole Cole behaved like a clown when trying to dribble in the match against Brazil? Do you guys think Lampard, Gerrard or Lennon can be considered by most coaches as good as Ronaldiniho, Kaka, C Ronaldo, Messi or even Febrigas? Do you think Rooney or Defoe is as talented as Drogba, Torres, or Tevez? Come on, the statistics of EPL is just in front of your eyes, and you can't see? Be realistic ppl!!! it won't be England's any chance in the next 10 years, until one day we have a real genius, like C Ronaldo or Ronaldiniho.
ROONEY CLEARLY DIVED AND THE REF FELL FOR IT (no pun intended) and while we are trying to stop this at club level, the same must apply at international level, and that includes intentional cheating, even in a friendly
Im not a utd fan but rooney on his day is unstoppable and for england to get anywhere he is vital, i hope he does not get injured and i hope we woop croatias @#$%, come on england, and to be honest you know every team is guilty off a dive here or there but something has to be done about the refs
Rooney should have stayed on his feet and he didn't, what do you call that??
It's gonna be an interesting game
Remember games in the past when Croatia played Germany
They would spend the whole 90 minutes kicking lumps out of the Germans because of the history between the two Countries
Looks like they have now declared war on England!
for me it was the referee's mistake..rooney did not dive
Don't care as long as Rooney does not get injured playing for his second rate country team.If he does United should sue the Croatia FA and the English FA for compensation for every day he is injured.
If win win all the group games it will have been a great achievement not enough for me to say were world cup winners. We certainly need a few more tweaks, our style is a bit more boring now, but we grind out results, many a title winner has done this. Be good to have a Johnson Walcott right wing, as Lennon and Phillips just lacking an end product. I think tomorrow be a draw something like a 1 - 1.
