Gianni Zuiverloon admits the heat is on in the battle to establish himself as West Brom`s number one right-back.
The 22-year-old Dutchman is set to make his return to action against Plymouth this weekend having missed the last four games with a hamstring injury.
On-loan deputy Shaun Cummings has since departed but Zuiverloon faces fresh competition in the form of new signing Gonzalo Jara.
"It`s been a hard week of training but my hamstring feels fine now," he told the club`s official website. "It was frustrating to pick up an injury at the start of the season because everything was going well.
"I watched a few games and Shaun did well - he`s a good player. He did a good job and I have to do the same now. Hopefully I can play well, especially because we have signed Jara, who is a Chile international.
"I have to play good games otherwise there is someone else who can fill my spot. I feel this year is going to be harder to keep hold of my place. It`s good to have that competition because it will keep me sharp."
