Martinez melts down as top seeds dominate
Bobby Martinez was forced into early retirement after an expletive-laden rant at the ASP Tour on the second day of surfing at the Quiksilver Pro in New York.

The American was disqualified from the tournament after laying into the world tour organisers in a live interview following his round two victory over Australia's Bede Durbridge.
"First of all, and I'd like to say the ASP are going to fine me because I don't want to be part of this f***ing dump wannabe tennis tour," Martinez said.
"All these pro surfers who want to be tennis players, who want a halfway cut-off - how the f*** is somebody who isn't even competing against our calibre of surfers ahead of us on the one world ratings? They've never been here, they've never made (sic) the right to surf against us, but now we're ranked upon (sic) them. Come on, now. Bull****. That's why I ain't going to these stupid contests no more."
Martinez declined to compete in Tahiti last week but his new sponsor, FTW, is based in New York so he agreed to go to Long Island.
"I tell it like it is," he said. "This is my last one. I don't like tennis. I don't like the tour. Too many surfers are, 'Oh, I just went and saw Nadal play the other day.'
"Who gives a f***? You know what I mean? I love this city but if it wasn't for my sponsor I wouldn't be at this dumb contest. F***ing ASP, they ain't - surfing's going down the drain thanks to these guys."
Martinez was due to meet Kelly Slater in the third round, but Slater now advances straight into round four.
In other action at Long Beach, home hero Balaram Stack was bounced out by Mick Fanning while Adriano de Souza notched the day's highest single wave score of 9.20 and the top heat total of 17.93 in his round two clash with Travis Logie
"I'm really happy with my performance today," De Souza said. "My first heat was better for sure, I got the 9 and the 8, but I tried to get in rhythm in Round 3 and I hope I can keep going and get a good result in here.
"My house is really similar to these waves in New York and I feel at home out in these conditions."
De Souza went on to topple Patrick Gudauskas in the third round to keep alive his world title campaign.
"I'm stoked to make my heats today," De Souza said. "We had tough conditions and I knew for me that if I fell in that heat I would be out of the world title race.
"I'm happy to make it and hope I can keep my rhythm for the rest of the event. I'm looking forward to the no-loser's Round 4 and hopefully I can keep going in this event."
Australia's Taj Burrow and Mick Fanning also recorded round two wins.
