Ferrari return to pit-lane lollipop

Eurosport - Wed, 08 Oct 13:06:00 2008

Ferrari will use the 'lollipop' to tell drivers when to leave the pits in Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix after their traffic light system caused chaos in Singapore.

FORMULA 1 2008 Singapore GP Ferrari Massa Panne - 0

Felipe Massa, battling with championship leader Lewis Hamilton for the title, had his race in the city-state ruined when he drove from the pits with the fuel hose still attached after a mechanic made the light go green by mistake.

Ferrari's light system usually works automatically when the fuel hose is removed from the car, but in Singapore it was in manual mode.

"In this moment we need tranquillity and therefore we prefer to go back to the old system," team boss Stefano Domenicali.

Other teams still use the lollipop, which a team member holds in front of a driver before the pitstop is completed.

McLaren's Hamilton leads Brazilian Massa by seven points with three races left. The final grand prix is in Brazil on November 2.

  1. stivsf1: Better than a Ferrari manned station where I'd be pushed out the front door in front of a car with all the equipment still attached.

  2. GINGER-GITT all i am suggesting is you go to a V.R.T station and check your brains/i.q but make sure the opperator is not a MCLAREN FAN as otherwise the print-out will be contaminated

  5. Skyand Ginger, I am trying to write you to let you know that it's not just criticism, I do have my facts after following F1 fromm @1983, but the server is biased and I keep getting "invalid comment"
I just don't wish to be tarred with the same brush as Tifosi, or Touronroute, but the censor stops me from getting my point across.
(But somehow) Bilal-m seems to be able to even appear on here...Tell me that's not biased

  6. The Ferrari Formula 1 team fired their entire pit crew yesterday. The announcement followed Ferrari's decision to take advantage of the UK government's youth opportunity scheme and employ young people from Liverpool.

The decision to hire them was brought about after their recent comedy of errors in the Pit Lane at the last race.

A recent documentary on TV shown how unemployed youths from Liverpool were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Ferrari's existing crew can only do it in 8 seconds and wreck millions of euros worth of high-tech equipment and take other teams at the same time.

UK Prime Minister went on record as saying this was a bold move by Ferrari management which demonstrated the international recognition of the UK under New Labour.

As most races are won and lost in the pits, Ferrari now have the advantage over every other team. However, Ferrari may have got more than they bargained for.

At the crews first practice session the Liverpool pit crew successfully changed the tyres in under 6 seconds, but within 60 seconds they had resprayed, re-badged and sold the vehicle to the Red Bull team for 8 bottles of Stella; a kilo of speed, a Shell Suit, some Furry Dice and some photos of Coulthard's bird in the shower.

  7. usalien1967: You do realise the irony of criticising people for criticising other peoples comments don't you? Especially when you do the exact same thing in a comment listed moments earlier. We all do it. and yes I appreciate the irony of criticising you for criticsing people who criticise.

tifosi4eva: When Ferrari go on the move, will it be further than a wall (if their engine lasts that long) and will it involve dragging a fuel hose around with them?

stivsf1: As dangerous as a lollipop system? I don't remember any other team spraying high octane fuel over a competitor. And you are right, you cannot argue with a sub-zero brain, if I was arguing with one you would realise that a fully automated system is flawed because it is fully automated. Are you suggesting a pit crew of robots to refuel and change tyres?

  8. usalien1967, do you really think Ferrari will start cost cutting. There was a time, before Michael, when Ferrari lost a lot of races. If you understand anything about Ferrari it's not the costs. It's winning. The only reason Enzo sold Ferrari street cars was to support racing.

  16. Oh look! We have the comedy duo on here now..Touronroute AND Bilal. A comment from both, and no point to either. Bilal, you should really stop using the keyboard and go back to your crayons. Touronroute, 1 pitstop is fine. I just hope he can get back out fine also. And remember, we still have qualifying yet. If Lewis wins pole, Ferrari may as well start cost-cutting immediately and go home

  20. CONFUSE me yes confuse me not when you mention that FERRARI needs better sensors so there is no accidental tripping of switches before the pit-stop is over, I am telling you that you won this argument because there is no way on GODS GREEN EARTH to argue technical things with a sub-zero brains, for people with their heads out of the sand it can be as dangerous as a lolly-pop system no more no less
