Grant Holt smashed in five as Shrewsbury demolished Wycombe 7-0 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Adams Park.
Having bagged two in the opening 27 minutes, Town's record signing added a further three in eight second-half minutes, the pick a stunning 22-yard volley, as the Shrews cruised into the area quarter-finals and also emphasised their promotion credentials against the League Two leaders.
Town took the lead after 12 minutes when the former Nottingham Forest striker climbed highest to power in a Ben Davies corner and Holt had his second from close range 15 minutes later.
Holt then turned provider on 39 minutes as Kevin McIntyre slotted home his cross.
The hosts showed more purpose after the break and Brazilian forward Magno Vieria almost jinked his way through after 59 minutes but a spectacular 25-yard Shane Cansdell-Sherriff chip killed off any hopes of a Wycombe comeback.
Holt claimed the match ball 10 minutes from time with another header before crashing home a volley and then drilled home his fifth of the match and ninth of the season to compound the Chairboys' misery on 85 minutes.

Im just surprised wycombe are holding out this long as all their players just seem to keep walking out. Cant complain tho got a better family life as they are still happy bout wwfc results.
I shan't complain if we're 1st and 3rd at the end of the season!
ur getting near wwfc now- only 2 points behind!
Thanks! Good response!
But well done Shrewsbury are the only team i can think of winning 7-0 twice home and away in same season in response to #1
flyingvic
when i refer to not supporting Wycombe i mean they are not my main team, (which is Liverpool)
However, Wycombe is in my family thro my uncle, bro and dad so u DO want them to win their matches for a better family life. My other comments are BANTER which is wat u pik up supporting Liverpool and living in a family who is footy mad!! if u dnt see it as a joke im sorry, and u just need to lighten up as u r 2 serious!!!!
sorry to disappoint flying vic was replying to larry not you
I was just curious, Suzy, that's all. My original comment was about Shrewsbury winning two matches 7-0. I didn't diss the opposition. I didn't crow over them. I didn't even mention them - because that wasn't the point of my post. Has it ever happened before that a team has won competitive matches 7-0 twice in the same season? I don't know - that's why I asked the question.
Your response, however, from someone who claims not even to support one of Shrewsbury's opponents in these two games, was no better than an unpleasant sneer. Why? Do you have personality problems? Or is that you don't like to see other people happy?
PS. Although I wrote, "You sound a nice lady", I would not advise you to take those words at their face value.
My Uncle has supported the Chairboys for 30 years.
Yes i know lots about footy!
Thanks for the essay Larry- not that it makes sense or that i can be bothered to read it. too much free time??
Wycombe are top of the league and having a laugh!!!!.... hope u enjoy your only high point of the season
Hi Suzy, you sound like a rather strange lady. What have you got against Shrewsbury Town? Do you live in Sutton or are you one of the narrow minded councillors who have been doing everything possible to kill off the football club?, If so I suggest that you move and resign and let a real person take over.
As a small town Shrewsbury needs all the publicity and support it can get in these difficult times. What it does not need is more bureaucratic nonsense.
Larry Hotchkiss
Hi Suzy. You sound a nice lady. Know anything about football?
Hope u get joy from this. u wont be promoted. I dnt even support them but GO WYCOMBE
When was the last time a club won competitive matches 7-0 home and away in the same season? Shrewsbury have done it in five weeks!
