Premier League - Pavlyuchenko blow for Spurs

Eurosport - Wed, 08 Oct 10:14:00 2008

Bottom Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have been hit by another blow after striker Roman Pavlyuchenko was ruled out for three weeks.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Premier League Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham-Hull Pavlyuchenko Ramos - 0

The news came after the Russia hit man underwent a scan on his ankle, which revealed a partially-torn ligament.

"Roman will now undergo further treatment on the ankle after specialists declared him unfit to play for the next three weeks," said a Spurs statement.

Pavlyuchenko was forced off during Spurs' 1-0 home defeat by Hull.

Tottenham are currently bottom of the Premier League after their worst start in the post-war era.

They have struggled for goals since strike duo Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane were sold to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.

Boss Juande Ramos has been under increasing pressure for failing to build on last season's Carling Cup win, while director of football Damien Comolli has also come under criticism for the club's transfer policy.

  7. Regardless of the sale of Berba and Keane, both who wanted to go to other clubs. Jermaine Defoe wanted to play for Spurs. It is no suprise that none of their players can hit a barn door with a banjo when it comes to scoring goals. Look at Defoe now, smacking goals in for Pompey. When will those with the purse strings learn you cannot buy a team, you create one. Tottenham have some wonderful players but I bet the Team spirit in the changing room is boring as bat @#$%! Makes interesting viewing.

  12. John, I agree 100% with you. Bent is an honest tryer but not up to the mark in the Premier League.
Berby's move to ManU was the worst kept secret for 6 months so a replacement should have been lined up a lot earlier, Robbie's move was for sheer profit and little else and I think that Spurs regarded him as a player who had just about reached his peak. Despite all the emotion about it, I think he is more likely to sit on the bench at Lpool than start matches. As for Defoe, I think that is solely the fault of Martin Jol, he hardly ever gave the lad a chance to start a match and the lad's loyalty to Spurs went out of the window long before Ramos came on the scene
It's going to be a big task to get Spurs up the table and we have to rely on the WBA's and Stoke's to flounder at the same time, hoping for a change in fortunes along the way. We can't rely on the January sales to do the trick, it will take a couple of months for any new signing to adapt. And, please. not Arshavin - he is another ineffective pretty player, We need a thrusting, aggressive type of player to play along side Thierry Henry - now that is a thought!

  13. Why should it be a surprise that Spurs are at the bottom of the league when they sell one of the best scoring partnerships in the league, 3 if you include Defoe! To be left with Darren Bent was never going to be a good position and as for any striker new to the premiership Pavlyuchenko was not going to be an instant wonedr solution.

Its going to be a long hard struggle in N17!
