Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel does not need an operation on his right knee and should return to action by Christmas.

FOOTBALL 2008/09 Premier LEague Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel receives treatment - 0

The Slovakia centre-back damaged his posterior cruciate ligament after a sickening landing during the 3-2 win at Manchester City.

He received oxygen on the pitch and was carried off on a stretcher and it was feared that he could be out for the season.

But Reds spokesman Ian Cotton said: "Martin was examined by a specialist today, who confirmed the player does not require surgery and is expected to be back playing by Christmas."

Until his return, boss Rafael Benitez has Daniel Agger and Sami Hyypia available to partner Jamie Carragher in the centre of defence.

  1. I could not believe how the Manchester City fans were booing when Skrtel when he was carried off the field.
I would seriously hope that kind of behaviour would not occur at Anfield.

  9. Dino a spurs fan, good luck to all you Liverpool Fans this season, you have the players to win the league this year, provided Torres stays fit and Keano starts scoring his usual 20 goals,Jamie C is by far the best central defender in the country,England miss him badly.dont get involved in arguements with man u fans, just smile and look down the league at them, your only worry will be chelsea this year, good luck and look forward to seeing you when you come to Tottenham, have to admit as far as im concerned you are the best supporters in the country and the most welcome when you come to White Hart Lane, good luck dino.

Well what the hell does Steven Gerrard think he is. He has now adopted the continental way of playing the game by diving every time he gets beat in the tackle and always has the ability to convince the referees to give a free kick in his teams favour. Liverpool FC are like their counterparts from Manchester, they always have that spare man on the pitch to help them out.....THE @#$% REF. Cheating bsatadrs

  18. Reading this just makes you understand how many idiots there are who supposedly are football fans. I'm a liverpool fan and i totally dispise man utd and all there fans, but that stops as soon as the game ends. I'm friends with man u fans and yes they wind me up and so do i them, but at the end of the day football's football not violence. Martins injury was bad and any real football fan shouldn't like to see any player injured let alone serious. Get out there and play a bit yourself, injuries are part of the game. hen it happens to you see how u like it.
