Five-times Major winner Seve Ballesteros is undergoing tests in a Madrid hospital to determine why he briefly lost consciousness on Monday.
The 51-year-old is in a stable condition at La Paz University Hospital, after suffering dizzy spells and fainting.
The golfer's family asked for no more information to be made available.
The charismatic Ballesteros is one of the greats of European golf, having claimed 87 titles worldwide.
He won the Open three times, in 1979, 1984 and 1988, and the US Masters twice, in 1980 and 1983.
Ballesteros also played an inspirational role in the Ryder Cup, winning 20 points from 37 matches. He also captained Europe to victory at the Spanish course of Valderrama in 1997.
Ballesteros retired midway through the 2007 season after suffering from heart palpitations.
He was also plagued by arthritic back and knee problems in the later stages of his career.

Great golfer and sportsman - always an inspiration - fiery - a true favourite - a legend and in our thoughts and prayers at this time!
As a young adult in Scotland, I watched Seve enter the golf scene and blow our minds. He was a handsome, polite, gentle man and his gold was nothing short of electrifying. I wish him all the luck in the world in his fight with this health issue. I am confident he will conquer it completely and soon return to a normal life. Stay strong, Seve!!
We love you!!!
I remember seeing Seve at an Open at Muirfield in the 70's as a young newcomer and he was electrifying, and that was just the start. Whether player or Captain of the Ryder Cup team you were up there with the 'greats' of golf and it was a pleasure to watch your skill and enthusiasm. Get well soon, lots of folks are praying for you.

Even though golf is a good walk ruined I wish Seve a speedy recovery. Top bloke and great flagship for sport. The golf course, the only place you can dress like a pimp and get away with it.
My father taught me the game and Seve you were held in the upmost regard by him, having then watched you play I understood why - genius is the best way to describe your play full of flair, optimism and just joy at playing and a gentleman in any other arena. I wish you a speedy recovery, and hope you will return to golf in some capacity very soon - the game really is poorer for you not being actively involved.
To the man who inspired me as well as many many more to take up the sport - here's hoping you make a speedy recovery
Carried the fight to the Yanks when they were sweeping all before them. Entertainer par excellance and a great golfer to boot get well soon.
