Sunderland striker Darren Bent has been recalled to the England squad for next Saturday's friendly against Brazil in Qatar despite missing a penalty in front of England coach Fabio Capello on Saturday.
Bent has been in excellent form since moving to Sunderland this season, scoring eight goals for his new side. However, he did miss a penalty when Sunderland lost 2-0 at his former club Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone, who scored a blistering goal against Sunderland on Saturday, could win his first senior England cap.
Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock is also included and has the chance to add to the one cap he won as an 84th minute substitute when England played Trinidad & Tobago in Port of Spain in June last year.
David Beckham has been selected but will be released from international duty if his Los Angeles Galaxy side win their MLS Conference semi-final against Chivas USA on Sunday night.
Capello has again omitted Michael Owen, even though forwards Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole are out with injuries and Owen's chances of playing in the World Cup finals next year now look slim.
Other absentees include Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Aaron Lennon and David James. They are all carrying injuries, apart from Cole who is playing his way back into the Chelsea side after an injury layoff.

Toony. I don't think Heskey will feature in Capellos plans any more - he's out of form and then there was the mobile phone incident at the last England game. Bent is a very different player from Crouch and Defoe. Capello will want to have options.
Very unfair comment about Bent losing his bottle with penalty shoot outs. If you're basing that remark on the pen miss at Spurs then I think you're talking rubbish man!
Plus, why would Capello take Bent on the strength of the fact that he can head a ball better than Defoe? Crouch can head a ball better than Bent and Defoe is quicker than Bent. Both Crouch and Defoe have scored regularly for England whilst Bent hasnt. Think about it - it doesnt look good for him, even if Bent goes to the world cup (and i dont think he will) he wont get on the pitch - no way
Malc
I reckon Heskey is garbage and i have never understood his inclusion in any England squads - the guy cant even stay on his feet. What i am saying, right or wrong is that he seems to be above Bent in Capellos thoughts along with Crouch and Defoe. This isnt me being anti mackem, i have seen Bents previous efforts in an england shirt and think he has a mountain to climb to impress Capello. Yes he'll score goals in the premier league but if we are being honest half the teams in the premier league are average teams making up the numbers, world cup football is tougher and the pressure is more intense, Bents a.rse would drop out at the sniff of a penalty shoot out. Wrong man for the job malc
Jealous Mind Tone Darren bent is a far better player than Heskey, he us also a better player than Crouch. he can quite easily push his way into the team ahead of these two. he also offers something extra than Defoe does and that is his height and ability to head a ball.
Now will you be magnanimous enough to admit when you are wrong andd he scores goals to quieten the doubting Tones (I mean Thomas's)???????
Toony, apparently Darren was third choice for Capello behind Ameobi and Carroll. Unfortunately Shola is injured at the moment and Andy hasn't got a passport.
Cameron, you're going soft mate.
Anybody in the squad from your team Tony?
Rooney, Defoe, Heskey and Crouch will all be in front of him in the pecking order before anyone thinks i'm being anti-mackem for the sake of it. Bent simply doesnt have the time and wont have the opportunities to force his way up the list - FACT
Congratulations Bent. Enjoy your 3 minute substitute performance at the end of the game I hope you make the most of it! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Bent for England what a joke, if anyone seriously believes Bent will feature in any of the games at the world cup they need their head checking
well I bet that caused you a few wretches as you were typing it, fair play to you , good comment Cameron. Now isnt it good to have positive things to discuss rather than all the negativity.
Good luck to Bent he deserves a go after an excellent start to the season.
Wow looks like Ian is pleased with you cameron w(anker!)
Over the moon with Bents call up, don't care who plays for England as long as they win, loved Shearer in an England team, won a fortune backing him in Englands colours, shame he had to go back to being a skunk afterwards though!
