Wales coach Warren Gatland was critical of several decisions made by referee Craig Joubert as his side's New Zealand hoodoo continued with a 19-12 defeat at the Millennium Stadium.
Gatland was particularly critical of the South African's failure to penalise All Blacks fly-half Daniel Carter for a high tackle on replacement scrum-half Martin Roberts as the hosts pushed for a try late in an absorbing Test match in Cardiff.
"It was a head high tackle," he said. "A guy makes a break in the 22 and if that had happened at the other end then it would have been a penalty and a yellow card and all the officials missed it, so we are pretty disappointed with that."
Assistant coach Shaun Edwards was even more forthright in his views on Carter's tackle saying, "They should have played the last 10 minutes of the game with 14 men.
"It was a high tackle and you see players get yellow carded for that, you see players red carded for that."
Fly-half Carter, who overcame a calf muscle injury to play, booted 14 points for the All Blacks while hooker Andrew Hore scored a 56th-minute try.
Wales relied on four penalties from Carter's opposite number Stephen Jones, and despite putting the visitors under severe pressure late on they are now without a win in this fixture since 1953.
Gatland was also less than pleased by the decision to award a first-half penalty against flanker Martyn Williams for a deliberate knock-on.
He explained: "The deliberate knock-on against Martyn Williams was harsh and that cost three points. You look at that and it means we lost three points there and with the high tackle."

In all honesty to concentrate on an incident which may or may not have affected the result does nothing but negate a true analysis of our national side's deficiencies and the fact that Wales did not look like scoring a try until the last ten minutes. Players picked on past reputation and not on consistent present form will always be an Achilles heel to any side. Where was the support when A.W Jones made that marvellous interception etc. By the way the missed pulling on the shorts of A.W. Jones as he tried to prevent the Blacks scoring was, in my view, more of a controversial incident that positively affected the score.
Hi Duane, yes the All Blacks love to see the Northern Hemisphere 'cry about it and moan' but not half as much as we like to see the All Blacks whinge and moan when World Cup time comes around. Perhaps if they spent less time patting their thighs and sticking their tongues out before the game they might actually come close to winning a World Cup in the professional era. By the way, did some of the All Blacks used to play American Football? Only they keep passing the ball forward.....
enough about the carter tackle already. if wales (you) drew the game you'd be happy, maybe not as much as if you won but look at where Martin Roberts feet were when the tackle was made, the bloke was about to trip, had he been going at pace towards the line the tackle would have been around the shoulders and our cover defence would still have been there. I don't mean to go on but when the blacks are under pressure, even when they're down to 14 men they still manage to compose themselves and more often than not score! No wonder the kiwis (us) love to stick it to the northern hemisphere teams. Watching you cry about it and moan is just fuel to the fire. If you didn't whinge so much the victories wouldn't be quite so sweet, to that end, carry on... That said, I think you should be thankful, without the video ref a lesser on field ref would probably bowed to the pressure and awarded us one of the three try scoring opportunities that weren't quite there.
on another day it could have been a memorable victory, if not a hard earned draw. but lack of composure in the final third again undid us! how many times do we see a missed lineout when its a pressure throw like on the AB's 5 meter line? Huw Bennet should have hit his target. a little grubber kick from A W Jones towards the far corner for Shanklin and Halfpenny... what ifs and maybes...
i thought the ref did a good job, we cant complain after the disallowed tries! B Leonards' kick in the head was an accident, if it wasnt Mcaw would have jumped on stephen Jones lol, he was right there.
cartet was a bit high, but he atleast held on below the shoulder and completed the tackle, not a swinging straight arm.
I think your whistling Dixie here Mr Gatland to try to hide the failures in your own selection policy.
close but no cigar. the Carter tackle was a tad high but not malicious, his hand was open and not a fist. a penalty sure but no yellow or citing needed. We never looked like winning the game from the offset but are getting closer. we matched them for pace, physicality and fitness but its the winning mentality that was lacking. if Gatland can install that then we are in business. the aussie game will be a corker, us to win by 5 points.
Sorry Gats, your clasping at straws.
The All Blacks won the game (with 3 tries disallowed via Video Ref) although Wales fought very well and deserved credit BUT the ref did not change the course of the match. Missed oppurtunities by Wales and yes it could have been a different result.
Their time will come, save your Energy Gatland
Sounds like our bitter lesser rivals to me, like England fans, well we came closer than Australia did playing the All Blacks.Did not Australia beat you really badly. So cymru am byth!
So Why is every other team can blame the Ref apart from the All Blacks? Everyone forgotten about the rest of the match? The Three Dissallowed tried 2 of which probably would have been given if the Cemera guy was in the right place or maybe even Brednon Leonard getting kicked in the head?
Wales are a good team they just ran out of puff get your players into shape and stop complaining!
Gatland needs to look at his and his teams performance more than the referee. Wales got away with a head high tackle very early on - but no mention of that Mr Gatland?
They were beaten at the breakdown and surprisingly at the line out as well. Carter played well but it was not a one man performance, in most aspects of the game the all Blacks were a bit better than Wales although neither team played at their best.
The ABs have played together more recently which helps, but they played with more aggression and a bit more flair. Although they scored the only try they did cross the welsh try-line 4 times - that says a lot. I think France will pose a much bigger test for the ABs (if France turn up mentally) and Wales need to improve to ensure they are not beaten in the next 3 internationals.
