The 26-year-old, who was substituted in the second half at White Hart Lane after colliding with Jermain Defoe, was taken to hospital where X-rays confirmed the fracture of his left forearm.

"Craig's in a lot of pain," manager Steve Bruce told the club website.

The club, who have Hungarian international Marton Fulop and youngster Trevor Carson as reserve goalkeepers and are eighth in the league, said they did not know how long Gordon would be out of action.

Gordon, who moved to Sunderland from Hearts in 2007, had been due to join the Scotland squad in the next few days for a friendly against Wales.

  4. lizibrindle He was holding his arm when he went down and then trying to wave to the ref to stop the game. The ref should have blown his whistle straight away. If he did clutch his head it was probably to get the ref to stop the game.

  6. I am a Spurs fan and thought he has been playing really well. Its a real a shame what happened to him and i hope he gets better soon.
Some people just have peanuts for brains, going on about aiming higher. I am sure they would not have said the same about the Modric tackle that broke his leg, but this great game does attract @#$%s unfortunately

I see. So his arm isn't actually broken at all, it's fractured.

By the way, is sufffering more intense than suffering?

Maybe it causes fractures to turn into breaks.
