Departing caretaker manager Jason Dodd believes Aldershot's next boss will inherit a team capable of going on a FA Cup run after a 2-0 win over Bury in his final match in charge.
The next incumbent in the Recreation Ground hot-seat can look forward to a second-round tie after first-half goals from Louie Soares and Scott Donnelly saw off the Shakers.
It was a sweet exit for Dodd, who lost to the same opponents in his first game in charge and failed to record a league victory. He will now take up a coaching role at Southampton's academy.
"We were aware it could have been an anti-climax, but the lads adapted well and they were immense,"' said Dodd. "The way they went about it was pleasing, our shape, our body language - the players were hungry.
"It was fantastic and whoever gets the job would have been watching thinking they haven't got too much to sort out. Aldershot won't win the cup but we said to the players before that they can go on a run, and I really believe that."
He added: "Maybe at a different time in different circumstances I could have stayed here, but I have to say all the players and staff here have been immense."
