Hughes frustrated by City failings

Sun, 08 Nov 23:37:07 2009

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has warned his team they must start sealing games once they get into winning positions.

The Blues are now on a run of five successive draws thanks to a 3-3 thriller against Burnley at Eastlands. Although Hughes feels some represent a point gained, at Aston Villa for instance, others are definitely two dropped.

"It is frustrating and disappointing because we got ourselves into a winning position," complained Hughes.

"We have to learn to see games out because we have drawn two games at home from winning positions.

"Maybe it was a consequence of the effort we put in before that, because we worked exceptionally hard to get ourselves in front.

"But we did not do the right things at the right times."

It had all looked so good for City after they had recovered from that appalling start.

Graham Alexander drove home a penalty after #22million central defender Joleon Lescott had handled, then the impressive Steven Fletcher added a second.

Yet once Shaun Wright-Phillips had breathed new life into his team just before the break, a successful comeback mission always looked likely.

And with Kolo Toure and Craig Bellamy both finding the net before the hour mark, City looked set for the perfect send-off ahead of their trip to Abu Dhabi this week, where they will carry out some promotional work in addition to tackling the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

  2. I am not asking for outstanding football and perfect tactics at the moment yet i would

expect at the very least the simple basics of football

    there is none on offer

  3. heard it last season -- give hughes time blah blah blah

1/4 billion quid spent and 16months later

nothing has improved. Its got worse and the blind faith brigade need to wake up to the fact that Hughes cant do the job.

1/4 billion quid spent, 16 months and no improvement

  4. I agree with "Me and My Shadow", the season has only just got going, still a few twists and turns to come, but Hughes has only just got his squad together, no team with as many new arrivals will gell any quicker, so all the haters will be laughing on the other side of their faces when we get working as a well balanced team, pretty poor defence the other night, but we are doing alright. So stop bleating on about sacking hughes you muppets, at least till the end of this season. Rome, man u, arsenal, were not built in a day/season. City Till I Die....

  6. mancity players are good as individual player but collectively, they're the worst after considering their pay rate and all the transfer cost. hughes jz cannot integrate all his great player into a great team jz like wenger did with the gunners. plus with all the mentality for individual plays among the players, mancity will be at tenth forsure.

  7. Adebayor is hitting his true form! He cannot keep up his work rate, because that is just not him! The lazy piece of &^%$ is not worth his wages. Selling him to Man City was the best piece of business Arsene Wenger has ever done. Even the TV commentators say that he is lazy - plain and simple - no mincing of words. Frankly I don't really care where Arsenal end up this season in the EPL, so long as it is above any team that Adebayor plays in - sorry if that it happens to be Man City. Toure, on the other hand, is dearly miss by Arsenal fans for his high work rate and appreciated for his years of faithful service to the Club. He will always have a place in the hearts of Arsenal fans.

  8. All of a sudden the insults start to flow against Adebayor! Didn't have to wait too long did ya?
Don't say u were not warned. Lets face it, the players have large salaries and probably spend more time thinking of how to spend it than on thinking of how to win matches. Serves Man City right!
Adebayor thought he was a demi-god when he was scoring for Arsenal forgetting that he was getting juicy accurate passes from all over the pitch. Now he's in a team where everyone wants to score once they get the ball around the 18 and now we see how ordinary he is. Did he actually play against Burnley? Man City sorry ooooo! MH is clueless but he really looks good in his expensive suits!

  9. Sack Hughes. Sack Hughes. Just sack Hughes. Hundreds of millions spent on decent, proven Premier League players, but no leadership, no plan A let alone plan B, just the hope that the players' talent sees things through and keeps this mediocre nonentity in his job. The results against Fulham and Burnley were awful - these teams are utterly useless away from home and we still manage to let leads slip against them. The performance against Birmingham was shocking - we wouldn't have scored if the game was still going on now. I don't mind who we bring in as long as they're used to dealing with top players and big matches. Mourinho's always been my choice but there must be other candidates better than Hughes - let's face it, the dump I took this morning would do at least as good a job. Did I mention that I think Hughes should be sacked?

  10. tom -- ade didnt have one pass to himself inside the 18 yard box all game. Tevez had 1 of note and Bellamy had 1 which he scored from.

The 3 strikers didnt get the service.
2 opportunities inside the 18yard box in 90mins.

    Sack Hughes.

Hughes has not improved anything at all. There is no structure or tactics to be seen.
Watch Fulham -Chelsea and Arsenal they are well organised teams with tactics.
Hughes just cannot get his ideas over to the players.

    16months + £220 million
    Bye bye Hughes

  14. are you a red Paul G and frightened of were the blues are going? Dont forget it took United years to build a team to be in the top four for so long. City have only justed started and their play this season shows what they will be able to do when they gell. the season is not half way but how many points are we behind you. watch hyour back mate were coming for you.

  19. Hughes should be frustrated by his poor signings nothing else........the job is beyond him. A team of mostly second rate players he paid over the odds for..............spending big doesn't always bring sucess

From GORDON, on Sun 8 Nov 11:41AM
  20. how can a team see out a game, Mr Hughes? How is it done?
Does Hughes know the answers or is he just hoping that saying the words produces the results?

He took off Tevez who was not injured and replaced him with Petrov. A left footer on the right?
    Hughes is finished.
Sack the imbecile and bring in a quality manager, Mancini.
