Hibernian owner Sir Tom Farmer on Tuesday night described Rod Petrie as the "finest chairman" he could have as a newly-formed fans' protest group stood outside the club's AGM at Easter Road calling for both men to stand down.
The Leith club have been in some turmoil since dispensing with the services of manager Colin Calderwood on Sunday following the home defeat to Dunfermline in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
Before the AGM some supporters from `Hibsforchange' gathered at the Famous Five Stand and chanted `Sack the board' while holding up a banner which read: `Eight managers in 10 years can't all be wrong. GET PETRIE OUT NOW!!'
As it transpired, Petrie was given a fairly easy ride inside by the shareholders, to whom it was confirmed that the club had posted a financial loss - £886,000 - for the first time in seven years.
However, at the end of the meeting principle shareholder Farmer, a businessman best known for being the founder of Kwik-Fit but who rarely speaks publicly, brought the house down when he took the microphone.
"Everybody in this room shares the same desire, the one thing in common, that is to see Hibernian Football Club have a winning team," he said. "I have that desire, Rod Petrie has that desire and every director has that desire. I am telling you ladies and gentleman that Rod Petrie is the finest chairman that we could possibly have."
