Brown, whose existing deal expires at the end of the season, was expected to sign a lucrative new four-year deal but he has failed to agree terms with the Premier League champions and Ferguson says he will not receive another offer.

"He has not agreed anything, which is entirely up to Wes," Ferguson said. We feel we have made him a good offer. We have had several meetings with his agent. Some agents are difficult. They have rejected our last offer so that's the end of it. We won't be going back.

"It's a possibility," Ferguson added of Brown leaving on a free transfer in the summer. "It would be a disappointment."

The 28-year-old has been at Old Trafford since leaving school and has amassed 271 appearances and 14 England caps in that time.
