Blues fail in move for Castroman

Wed 09 Jan, 08:15 PM

Argentine midfielder Lucas Castroman has confirmed he turned down a move to Birmingham to sign for the 'great' Boca Juniors. The Premier League outfit thought they had pulled off a major coup by landing the 27-year-old former Lazio and Udinese man.

However, a last-minute move from Boca derailed Birmingham's move - despite the fact they already had agreement with the player and his club, America of Mexico.

"I am very pleased, I did not have great support at America last year but today I am now with a great team like Boca," said Castroman.

Castroman, who has been capped by Argentina, admitted he could have made more money if he had finalised his transfer to St Andrews.

"I decided for many reasons to reject Birmingham," he explained.

"It was not influenced by money because economically in England I would have been better off.

"I am in a team now, where I have always dreamed of. When they asked me to join Boca I didn't hesitate, I respect the other clubs I played for, especially Velez, who I did my best for when I was there, but Boca is Boca."
