Gills fail in Lomas settlement

Wed 09 Jan, 01:00 PM

Manager Mark Stimson revealed Gillingham have so far failed in attempts to reach a contract settlement with Steve Lomas. The experienced midfielder, 33, has made just nine appearances since joining from QPR in the summer and Stimson is keen to offload the former Northern Ireland international.

"I think at this moment in time, his legs are not what I am looking for," said Stimson.

"We have spoken to Steve a few times and have been trying to do a contract settlement. Unfortunately, he is not entertaining that at the moment and that is disappointing as we haven't gone lightly on it."

Stimson has also tabled another bid for Forest Green striker Stuart Fleetwood and confirmed youngster Luke Freeman is in talks over a potential move to Arsenal.

The Gills boss said: "Arsenal are the front runners for Luke. We are trying to negotiate a deal but it could take a day, a week or a month."
