Trotters Close In On Bhoy Balde

Wed 09 Jan, 12:09 PM

Bolton Wanderers are in talks to sign Celtic defender Bobo Balde, but have yet to agree a fee.

Balde has made just two appearances for Celtic this season after turning down a move to Sunderland last summer.

He returned to the team over Christmas and Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan revealed it was down to the centre-half to decide his future.

The 32-year-old could now have the option of a switch to the Premier League after Gary Megson confirmed his interest.

"We have spoken to Celtic about Bobo, but we are not quite there with the fee," the Trotters manager told the Bolton News.

Megson, in addition to trying to keep Nicolas Anelka, is aiming to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

He is chasing Portsmouth's versatile left-sider Matt Taylor and has also been linked with a bid for Sheffield Wednesday winger Glenn Whelan.

The Owls have rejected a 'derisory' offer from Plymouth Argyle, while Derby County are also rumoured to be keen on the Irishman.
