Veteran playmaker Inigo Idiakez is in contention for a return to the Southampton side for Saturday's meeting with Scunthorpe at St Mary's.

The Spanish star (pictured, on the left, in his Derby days) has been sidelined for over two months with an Achilles problem which required trips to his homeland for treatment.

But he started for the reserves against Millwall on Tuesday and proved his fitness to stake a claim for a place in George Burley's midfield when Iron head to the south coast.

"Inigo came through 80 minutes and then I took him off because he had done enough to be in contention for Saturday," said reserves boss Stewart Henderson.

David McGoldrick scored twice upon his return from a loan spell at Port Vale, while Mario Licka and Cedric Baseya were also on target as Saints ran out 4-1 winners.
