Premier League - New probe into Tevez affair

Eurosport - Fri, 09 Jan 10:33:00 2009

The Premier League and the FA are to launch a fresh inquiry into West Ham's conduct over the Carlos Tevez affair.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Premier League - Carlos Tevez, West Ham - 0

The new investigation, into West Ham's dealings with the striker's representatives after the club had initially been fined £5.5 million for breaching league rules over third-party agreements, will be conducted jointly by the FA and the Premier League.

It follows the findings of an arbitration tribunal in favour of Sheffield United and against West Ham last year which decided Tevez should not have been able to play for the Hammers at the end of the 2006-07 season.

A joint statement said: "The Premier League and the FA are to institute a joint inquiry into the views expressed by the Independent Arbitral Tribunal chaired by Lord Griffiths in September 2008, which dealt with a compensation claim by Sheffield United against West Ham United brought under FA Rules.

"The joint inquiry will examine whether the conduct of West Ham United immediately after the Independent Disciplinary Commission's decision of 27 April 2007 amounted to further breaches of Premier League or FA Rules."

The inquiry means West Ham or individuals could face further disciplinary action but say they have nothing to hide from the new investigation.

A club statement said: "West Ham United will co-operate fully with the joint inquiry convened by the FA and Premier League.

"We have acted in good faith throughout the various inquiries and investigations into this matter and fulfilled the undertakings given to the Premier League following the initial penalty.

"We have nothing to hide and will ensure that this is once again reflected in our evidence to the FA and Premier League."

  1. Sheffield United = sour grapes. Sheffield United were relegated and have remained in the Championship as they are simply not good enough for the Premiership and it is as simple as that.

  8. Dont forget that West Ham actually LOST games when Tevez was playing as well. As for the results on the pitch SU let a big points lead go so they are to bvlame for their performance not one player,Footy is a team game.
Overall blame lies with TWO parties
First ; tevez's owner also wanted to buy West Ham,it was only when he was knocked back that this came to light.

Secondly surely both the FA& PL and their Lawyers checked his contract. It should have been sorted as soon as Mascherano went to liverpool.

The sentence on WHU was passed and served end of

  11. For West Ham to have been fined so much they must have done something seriously wrong. For another enquiry to take place there must still be something seriously suspicious. Didn't anyone else 'smell a rat' when Man U were calling for tevez to join them .... which was impossible for some reason, then the day after the SUFC match he packed his bag at West Ham and went to join Man U. If anything else dodgy is found against West Ham over this affair the most fair and reasonable outcome would be for them to suffer the same plight as Luton ... and start the season with minus 15 points, and whilst we're at it, SUFC can start with plus 15. Let's see some justice.

I think its a disclosure issue west ham tried to hid the facts that macherano and tevez were both still owned by third parties and tried to register the players as west ham players with no recording of the third party involvment

hen man united did it they took the player tevez on loan as did liverpool when they took macherano

  19. Could anyone tell us what have man utd done what west ham should have done in the signing of tevez? they are not having the same trouble, this is a serious question, dont be shocked I know it is rare on here

  20. "How about the fact that SUFC lost their last 7 games and WHUFC won theirs,

I think the point being made is Tevez was playing and scoring goals for west ham when he should'nt have been according to the premier league when they fined west ham the original fine.
I do tend as it happens to agree with you it has dragged on but I blame to premier league for bottleing the correct desision in the first place when this all came to light they should have deducted the correct number of points to ensure west ham went down IMHO and i am not a fan of either club
