Season 2009 - Renault fail 2009 crash test

Eurosport - Fri, 09 Jan 21:20:00 2009

Renault's 2009 Formula One car has failed a mandatory crash test but the launch of the R29 will proceed as planned later this month.

"We have identified the problem and solved it," said a team spokesperson, before refusing to give any more details about the issue. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the car was believed to have failed nose and side impact tests, with one chassis seriously damaged.

"We will be able to run the car as planned in Portugal."

The R29 car is due to be launched before a regular test session at the new Portimao circuit in southern Portugal on Janauary 19.

Crash test failures are not unusual in Formula One, with teams pushing their designs to the limit.

Renault also failed one before the start of the 2005 season that brought them their first championship with Spain's Fernando Alonso, and have plenty of time to rectify the problem.

The team won two races with the double world champion last year and aim to be back in the hunt for the title when the season starts in Australia on March 29.

  1. maybe you failed too many crash tests yourself...
I always thought the people they use in those tests looked very strange, all yellow and with radiation signs on their heads. Do all the people in your tribe look like that? Your cartoon picture is a bit different to what I've seen on TV of crash tests and I've been to Peru where the people were all intelligent humans who look normal and could hold a normal conversation without skipping back like a scratched CD. You are obviously not a "normal" Peruvian. Would you describe your tribe as "as yet undiscovered", did your people draw the Nascar Lines out in the Desert or are they yellow from the reflection of the shining pathway deep in the dark of the Amazon jungle?
Please answer and let us know if you are still alive, your messages seem to be prerecorded and out of date or is it just that repeated crashes have damaged you irreparably?

  2. J.clark440 - True. Only 3 percent of comments on here are from true F1 fans about the current subject. The rest, well, they will never change their blinkered opinions, I wouldn't expect an intelligent comment from these people. Good people, don't be put off by these apes. ;)

  5. Nah Renault will go back strong. It's just a glitch to make the competition think they are not up to the score. Anyway I was just passing by to have a laugh at my friend Marnio. His circus critic is preposterously hillarious which is fine. hahahaha

This is actually a pretty good statistic. At least it's on F1.
Normally if you post on topic you get "invalid comment" or insulted by some nutter!

  9. skitrall: So Ferrari and Schumacher had real challengers did they? Schumacher won everything/everyrace without the team having to ask Barrichello to pull over? And in case you missed it, you simpleton, I said CONSTANT challenge, he had many a year virtually unopposed. And apart from that you are an even bigger fool for missing the whole point of the post, and that is the fact that too many people nowadays are too quick to slag off the opposition and call them useless. Schumacher wasn't useless and was one of three men crucial to where Ferrari are now, but he also had an easy ride for many seasons.

  10. Skitrall your comment shows not only do you know nothing about F1 but also you are a bonafide IDIOT.
Alain Prost won 4 championships in his career not 1.

  11. ginger gitt shumi had alot of challengers in his f1 carrear let me name some:
    alain priost 1 x champ
    damon hill 1 x champ
    j villnurve 1 x champ
    hakkinen 2 time champion
    alonso 2x champ
    couthard
    barrachello
    ect and more

  12. Yes a small fraction of a second gained in the pits can put you in front of another driver. Schummy realised this and did his utmost to maximise it, it's not surprising that ferrari think he is still useful in the team.

From BigBill, on Sun 11 Jan 4:39PM
  13. Bill Mac: Schumi did move the bench mark that little further for what you need to do to be great in F1. Before him Senna made physical fine tuning of the driver the must have characteristic of a team. Schumi made fine tuning teamwork the new crux of success.

    From ginger_gitt, on Sun 11 Jan 4:10PM
  14. Ginge & Slim another thing about Schummy was how "well oiled" his pit stops used to be, I can't remember (correct me though) him having a disaster in the pits.
He would pull in right on the mark and pull away at exactly the right time. Now I know this is team work but I bet Schummy used to make those guys really work. Practice, practice ....

  15. Guys as I have said on here a number of times: the F1 guys are all something pretty special and it really annoys me when some of the cretins that post on here slag off driver A or driver B. Probably some of these idiots haven't even passed their driving test but they feel able to criticise an F1 driver. Makes my blood boil.

From BigBill, on Sun 11 Jan 3:40PM
  16. SlimJ: But where has the "old guard" gone? Personally I couldn't stand Schumacher, and while I maintain he won as much as he did without a constant challenge and with alot of team assistance, there is no doubt he was a great driver, I'll admit that. And now in F1 I dislike Alonso even more, he's a crybaby, an egotistical tantrum throwing primadonna, but as far as car development and setup goes there is no one better. Because I can respect their driving abilities it always made it oh so much sweeter when the guy I supported wins, because he has beaten someone worth beating.

  17. ginger_gitt : hence the terminolgy " when the shoe is on the other foot "

From slimj, on Sun 11 Jan 3:14PM
  18. m.e.jenner: I know, and what's worse is most fans don't realise they are doing the guy they support a disservice as well. If Alonso is 5hit, as some Lewis fans proclaim, then so is Lewis surely since in 2007 they couldn't be seperated on points. And after 2008, if Lewis is also 5hit as some of his fans had decided in 2007, and as most Ferrari and Massa fans stated in 2008, the so is their beloved Massa since Lewis beat him. There was a time when F1 was filled with great drivers, apparently now though they are all useless, just ask their fans.
