Renault's 2009 Formula One car has failed a mandatory crash test but the launch of the R29 will proceed as planned later this month.
"We have identified the problem and solved it," said a team spokesperson, before refusing to give any more details about the issue. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the car was believed to have failed nose and side impact tests, with one chassis seriously damaged.
"We will be able to run the car as planned in Portugal."
The R29 car is due to be launched before a regular test session at the new Portimao circuit in southern Portugal on Janauary 19.
Crash test failures are not unusual in Formula One, with teams pushing their designs to the limit.
Renault also failed one before the start of the 2005 season that brought them their first championship with Spain's Fernando Alonso, and have plenty of time to rectify the problem.
The team won two races with the double world champion last year and aim to be back in the hunt for the title when the season starts in Australia on March 29.

girls with names like Eleana have plastic boobs, I hate them ...
it's just a temporary problem
and, if we consider the last four years,
Renault won four titles (two drivers, two teams)
Ferrari three titles (one drivers, two teams)
and Mc Laren one (one drivers).
So, who is the best car?
JerichoHolic ALONSO IS A LITTLE SPOILT SPANISH TW-T AND HE NEEDS TO MATURE INTO A MAN
dbowzee, WELL SAID
I hope Alonso will beat the hell outta Hamilton...for his 2007 treatment by McLaren...

Well said Ginge - today it is fashionable to be as sneeringly critical as possible - everyone trying to bring others down. Shame. Where's the harm in giving praise where it's due? Praise the skills and leave the pesonal stuff where it belongs.
French cars are plastic I hate them
If i have the same grammar as "marnio from peru" I'd rather no comment at all. His grammar is terrible, spelling is pathetic, and most of all, he is nonsence!
Maybe, mister Adrian W, but I don't remember the organizers shortening a race so Senna could win it, do you?
Neal V: Back then the best beat the best. If Senna beat Prost, his fans would say Prost was great but Senna was better. Now though if Alonso beats Hamilton its because Hamilton is 5hit. Not exactly alot of respect anymore amongst fans for the guy their beating. I miss those days where their was mutual respect, now though what we've got is petulent children bickering because only the person they support is any good.
Hey ginger_gittthose those were the days weren't they.
Adrian: Well lets look at Prost.
Prost through an "Alonso-Style" tantrum at Mclaren when newboy Ayrton Senna wasn't told to give way to him. He then left the team rather than race head to head with him again and went to Ferrari.
During his first season at Ferrari he through more tantrums and forced the team into swapping his chassis with that of Nigel Mansell because Mansell was beating him and couldn't face the fact it wasn't the car that was the difference. His attitude forced Mansell out of the team and to Williams.
When Prost signed for Williams, Mansell decided to retire from F1 and go racing in the US rather than be forced into sharing a team with him again, cutting his F1 career short. When Mansell's retirement was announced, a now established Brazilian was also up for grabs and Prost felt the need to have a "No Senna" clause put into his contract so Williams couldn't sign Ayrton.
A year later when the clause lapsed and Williams could sign Senna, they did without hesitation, and Prost promptly quit so he didn't have to be faced with being beaten again by the South American master.
Prost was a great driver, and his record speaks for itself, but he twice ran away from Senna and twice forced Mansell out of a team. And both of these drivers had proven themselves faster than the Frenchman in the same equipment so had no reason to fear him on the track. Prost feared Senna and irritated Mansell.
i keep getting invalid comment. why?
despite what some of the conspiracy theorists say, I don't think he did that deliberately. If he did he is even more stupid than I thought.
Ginger I can only see one main reason why Piquet was resigned by causing the situation in the night race handing Alo an easy win.
Poor old demented Padington Bear from Peru. Over two months now and he still hasn't been able to post anything new or relevant about F1.
