Cherries romp past sorry Hatters

Sat 09 Feb, 07:15 PM

Bournemouth won the battle of the administration sides thanks to a three-goal burst in the first half which set up a 4-1 win at Luton Town. The Cherries, docked 10 points on Friday for going into receivership, opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Sam Vokes ran in behind the home defence, rounded goalkeeper Dean Brill and slid home for his eighth of the season.

It was 2-0 a minute later as Alan Goodall completely missed Danny Hollands' long ball and Jo Kuffour touched the ball past the exposed Brill.

Luton briefly rallied as Dean Morgan and David Bell went close, but it was 3-0 a minute before the break after Max Gradel hit a superb 30-yard volley into the top corner.

Lewis Emanuel gave the Hatters hope when his 35-yarder slipped under Gareth Stewart in the 50th minute.

But Kuffour, who also hit the crossbar, rounded things off with his second seven minutes from time, converting from close-range after his first shot had come back off a post.
