Forest cruise past lowly Lions

Sat 09 Feb, 07:30 PM

Nottingham Forest full-backs Julian Bennett and Luke Chambers came up with the goals which saw off a poor Millwall side 2-0 at the City Ground.On-loan signing Will Hoskins could have supplied the goals on his debut which Forest needed to boost their hopes of automatic promotion from League One.

But in the end it was Bennett who broke the deadlock and Chambers added the second goal which was too much for the Londoners.

Hoskins missed a second-minute chance when he allowed Millwall goalkeeper Rhys Evans to deflect his shot after he had been put through by Lewis McGugan.

But Bennett powered in a 47th-minute header from Kris Commons corner to give Forest the lead and Chambers slotted in the second 11 minutes later after Millwall had failed to clear a Wes Morgan header.

Morgan also headed against the crossbar from another Commons corner and the visitors were so toothless they had to wait until injury time for their first shot on target. Even then Jay Simpson's effort was comfortably gathered by Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith.
