FA Cup - Warnock: 'FA Cup means nothing'

Eurosport - Mon, 09 Feb 10:41:00 2009

Stephen Warnock has claimed the FA Cup means "nothing" to relegation-threatened Blackburn this season.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Premier League Blackburn Rovers Warnock - 0

Rovers currently lie in the Premier League drop zone, with just eight points separating the teams in the bottom half of the table.

Sam Allardyce's men are next in action on Saturday when they face Coventry in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Warnock, though, has conceded the side's main priority is to ensure they preserve their top-flight status.

He said: "It may sound disrespectful but the FA Cup is nothing to us this season.

"For the club, the Premier League is all that matters. If we win the FA Cup and go down it won't mean a thing.

"The manager has already said that people's livelihoods are at stake. Jobs are on the line and that falls to the players."

  2. I bet Blackburn fans would love a day out at Wembly and to see their team win the FA cup. Typical modern footballer thinking of self and not the fans. Warnock should be dropped for all cup games and if Blackburn get into the final then I am sure he would not care if he wasn't picked for the final too.

  4. Dude what he tries to say is club need to concentrate and give all they have to exit from the relegation zone more than focusing on winning the fa cup. I totally agree with his opinion but if we can succeed both then it bonus for us.

  6. Stupid, ask the fans if it means nothing Stephen! Fair enough staying in the premiership must be Blackburn's priority, but a good cup run can list the fans and players, therefore it dont mean nothing. dipstick
