Ligue 1 - Gerets explains Niang decision

Marseille coach Eric Gerets has explained the decision to leave Mamadou Niang and Lorik Cana out of the 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Bordeaux.

Niang and Cana were expected to feature in the top-four clash at the weekend but did not even make the bench at Stade Velodrome and will probably not be risked for the match at Monaco on Monday February 16.

"It is the doctor (Christophe Baudot) who makes the decision," Gerets said.

"And he told me that it was still too soon to make them play."

With Bakary Kone also recovering from injury, Sylvain Wiltord and Brandao formed l'OM's attack partnership, although the only goal of the match happened when Marouane Chamakh put through his own net.
