Euro 2012 - Capello: I will say nothing

Wed, 08 Feb 20:23:00 2012

Fabio Capello has denied quotes attributed to him via an Italian media outlet.

Fabio_Capello_2011 - 0

Following his shock resignation on Wednesday night, the former England manager was reported as having told the Italpress news agency that the FA "insulted me and damaged my authority," but the 65-year-old has denied saying any such thing.

When asked about the quotes attributed to him, he said they were "false".

Capello told ANSA: "I leave England and I will not say anything else."

The disputed quotes were strongly at odds with the FA's statement about Capello's resignation in which FA chairman David Bernstein praised the Italian for his dignity.

"I would like to stress that during today’s meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner," Bernstein said.

The quotes had also referred to Capello criticising "the much-vaunted Anglo-Saxon sense of justice, as they are the first to claim that everyone is innocent until proven guilty" and added that "I have never tolerated certain crossing of lines, so it was easy for me to spot it and take my decision to leave."

  1. a black person from Broadlands Bridgend South Wales complained about me parking my vehicle in my own street even though he lives in the next street, he contacted my company and said i was racist because i refused to move my vehicle and made a racist remark.

What did i say to him . i said i have lived in this street since the day all these houses were built and i have never had a problem or complaint about my parking. according to him that is a racist remark fortunately for me my company new i was not racist .
the conversation did get a bit heated but no swearing or threats were made on my part , he did threaton to park his friends 7.5 ton lorry in my drive

over the next 18 months i have had a smashed windscreen, four broken wing mirrors, two tyres let down, one tyre slashed and the side of the vehicle was keyed .

  4. Capello jumped as he knew the sack would have come when England fail as usual. He was lucky not to get the sack in the last WC when more successful team managers (Uruguay) resigned or where sacked

  5. Chris when name calling is given the tag of racism, racism is reduced to childs play which it is not. Lawyers have made name calling racism for money. Soccer has devalued racism, and those now shouting about and making money out of this farce, devalue real victims of racism. It wont be long before people start disbeliving anyone who has been a real victim of racism. We have Black soccer players to thank for that, in my view they should be ashamed.

Whilst I think buried deep in your post there is a valid point I don't think you should really be portraying it that way.

    My view is this.

Racism has no place in football or anywhere else for that matter. However for it to go EVERYBODY has to be treated the same.

There is an air of only a black person can be racially abused. Like i said before if AF had said something similar to JT I really don't think it would carry anywhere near as much weight. Would the police have even taken it seriously. I really don't think we'd have seen the same ridiculous behaviour from the FA (had AF been captain of course).

Do we really believe that south american, greek, russian, italian, french etc etc players are not abused in the same way? Yet nothing is done! Be interesting to know what would have happened if Suarez had insulted Evra for been French instead.

Whilst calling someone a black whatever is wrong so is the rest of the abuse that is thrown around and nothing is done. For as long as there is this inconsistency racism will never be gone.

  7. Capello just can't be blamed in this at all. No matter what any one may say as regards using this as an escape from a not too good team but over hyped by the English press, fear of another bad outing; the truth is that a manager should have the exclusive right to decide who plays in his team and who leads it, how the team plays how they gets on as is concerns football matters. He must be the most important person and must not be undermined at all by his employers. The F.A undermined his authority period.

  8. lets face it The current england team is useless, new players are just coming through that are showing potential I hope the next manager sticks with youth and gets rid of Terry, Lampard, Gerrard , Cole etc, but he wont as no one seems to have the balls.

  9. Cliff, totally agree with your post 141.

If memory serves tho I think Mourinho said he wouldn't do the england job because he wants to do portugal one day.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

  10. I’m all for having an Englishman to manage the national team – but in all honesty, if Mourinho was to say I’ll do it – how many people out there would think that he would be a better choice than ‘Arry? I believe in playing to win, if that’s what people want from the national side then they need to employ the best possible person they can for that job, for me, Harry is not that person. This for me this is a shame cause I love the guy and think he is probably one of the most honest people out there doing this job. Go for Mourinho (just a coincidence that he has recently said he’ll leave Madrid at the end of this season and that he wants to come back to England to manage - which will be at about the same time Cappello would be leaving..?) and put in Harry or Pearce as his No2 to take over at a later date.

  11. Black on white racism strikes again. We need a Black manager and a black team. Whites need not apply. Black will call any white player racist guilty or not. Soccer is nothing now, the blacks have made it too racist. Lets be honest the constant cry of racism by blacks has killed any chance the game had of ever being a sport. I have stopped watching my local team and the TV is turned over now, if soccer comes on to the Screen. I now have a soccer free house. Soccer is black on white racism now, its no longer a game that has any respect in it what so ever. Soccer just died. Unless of course you are black.

  12. I personally couldn't care less what nationality the new manager is. I just want the best man for the job. Give me the choice of an Englishman failing ang a german winning us the Euros or world cup i know which one I'd take.

Other than Ramsey no manager of any nationality has won us anything.

  13. 138 – you want facts then check this out - you are correct in saying it was a member of public who initiated the complaint (which is also why it is going to a civilian criminal court and not through the FA) but the most significant thing here that most people are forgetting is this – Ferdinand says that he never heard what Terry said (as just mentioned – it was a member of the public) SO HOW CAN TERRY SAY HE WAS RESPONDING TO SOMETHING FERDINAND SAID? How can Terry turn around to him and say “I never called you a B**** *******….” if they were not talking to each other? Ferdinand never reacted to it and never made the complaint because he never heard anything. Terry aid what he said but not as a reply…

The only people defending Terry are the supporters of Chelsea. While I commend their loyalty, it is in this instance completely misplaced. Just the same as Liverpool fans with Suarez who mat least had the gumption to admit what he said. The FA has done the right thing but they’ve done it in the wrong way. If you were to sit down and try to work out the worst way to deal with the situation, it wouldn’t have been far from what the FA has done – AGAIN! It’s hard for me to sit here and condone the wages that these incompetent fools are being paid to ruin the name of football in this country. To me they are as bad as the bankers who have dragged this country to its knees but still wallow in the lap of luxury while the real people who keep it all afloat – the fans – are kicked in the plums time after time. Terry and Cappello should not be the target of everyone’s comments on here – it should be the incompetent FA.

From Cliff, on Thu 9 Feb 17:47
  14. For a start J Terry is guilty – anyone with two eyes and two brain cells can see what he said, including the Chelsea supporters. That will be proven in a court later in the year. HOWEVER – the FA have well and truly screwed this up. Just like any other football manger HE is the guy who picks the squad, the team, the captain the substitutes and when those substitutes are used. At what point does the FA phone through to Cappello and tell him who’s in the team and at what time the substitutes are to be changed and who are to come off and go on?

To just decide off their own back that an innocent man @#$%il proven guilty) cannot be the captain any more is completely and utterly wrong. And why now? Why didn’t they do something when this whole furore started? If they had a problem with Terry (and let’s face it, I think the majority of the non-Chelsea supporters do), then they should have approached Cappello first to discuss the situation. As far as I’m aware they didn’t even have the courtesy to invite Terry to the FA and discuss the situation with him and explain what they were doing and why they were doing it – again SO WRONG to sack the national captain and informing him by using the media!

If the FA had handled this whole situation in a more mature fashion, we’d still have a captain (albeit probably a new one) and a manager – now we have neither! I didn’t see them step in and tell Redknapp he can’t manage Spurs until he’d cleared his name – no doubt he’ll be appointed the successor. I still believe he’s the wrong choice. He’s not a good manager – he’s a great motivator but when it comes to employing new tactics to turn a game, or even making a small decision like a key substitution is beyond him. I just don’t think he has the tactical brain. Also he hasn’t really tested himself on any big stage – his one attempt at football in Europe ended very quickly.

I’m all for having an Englishman to manage the national team – but in all honesty, if Mourinho was to say

  15. Saying nothing....as opposed to 'doing nothing'.....Happy that this guy, who lets face it, was just useless...he achieved nothing but drew his multi million pound wages whilst tinkering with what maclaren was left with....A GOOD DAY FOR ENGLAND.

  18. Everyone saying its another waste of money employing another foreigner! But I don't think Sven was that bad, he had a lot of bad luck but he got us to late stages of all the tournaments he took us to. I'm a great believer in England having an English manager but Capello, despite his glittering CV, has done far more damage than Sven ever did. He should of been sacked after the World Cup. As a Spurs fan I hate to say it but there's only one man for the job. But if Harry wants to stay then I think Stuart Pearce should get the nod and bring in Gus Hiddink to help him for the Euros til he finds his way. Lets face it we're not gona win anyway so we might as well use it as a learning curve!

  20. The real problem in this whole saga is the FA, the fact that they have let it go on for so long is a discrace. They should have dealt with it as swifty as they did with Saurez and we would n ot be in this mess. Everyone who says that the problem is that we don't have an English manager is talking rubbish. Look at Capello's stats and you will see he is more successful then anyone else English included. It does not matter who replaces Capello, the bottom line is our players are just not good enough. Most have foreign managers at club level, so no excuses whatsoever.. And yes JT may be guilty but the British Justice system will take that that for us, people have already judged him on that, whatever the outcome his reputation is shot, he may as well put in a transfer request and go abroad. Just one final point, if you make what is deemed a racist comment, are you a racist ? Steve Williams had the same problem a while back and Tiger Woods defended him and rightly so. If JT is a racist then he is doing a @#$% good job at keeping it hidden from all the ethic players at chelski, did he say a racist comment, probably, but I don't think he is going to sign up for the BNP just yet. Racism should be stamped out, no place for it in this country, the players should set an example, but also the fans have to take responsibility as well. More racists in the crowd than on the pitch
