Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has ruled himself out of the race to succeed Fabio Capello as England boss.

2010 Newcastle Alan Pardew - 0

The 50-year-old was installed as one of the favourite behind Tottenham counterpart Harry Redknapp following the Italian's resignation.

However, when asked about the speculation on Thursday morning, he said: "Firstly, as an Englishman, I am proud to be in that sort of frame but it's not for me and I will make that quite clear.

"I am not even in the running as far as I am concerned."

Pardew has done an excellent job at Newcastle since replacing Chris Hughton as manager last season.

The Magpies are currently in fifth place in the Premier League, ahead of both Arsenal and Liverpool.

  3. I think Pardew is having a laugh , in no circumstances would he even be in the running and he knows it, but get in there first to knock it back haha, how many managers have did that over the years for the England job. only one manager has the charisma and the knowledge to pull these players together , and thats sir A ferguson. but I bet he is praying he was never born an englishman. anyway imagine the hysteria if he won the euros with england, all that love and attention from the english fans hoho .

  5. Pardew doesn't want the lousy job,so get off his back.Redknapp should never even be offered the lousy job,he's NEVER PROVED HIMSELF.Who the hell wants the lousy job?

  6. Let's make England manager like the prime minister. We'll have democratic elections every 4 years, and we can vote for who we want.

  7. Bunch of over reacting idiots. "err, how can he count himself in" " who even thinks he was a candidate, blah blah blah" He was asked the question by a journalist and he gave his answer. Just think lads before you spout your usuall drivel.

  8. Arry, Alan and co would be mad even considering taking the job, one minute your the press`s darling the next they hate you and want you out. Who can forget the Sun`s shamefull hounding of Bobby Robson when results were`nt swinging our way? the @#$% were giving away badges with Robson Out on them and then all of a sudden he was the best thing since sliced bread and it was dear old Bobby when we had a couple of reasonably succesful tournaments, Graham Taylor did not deserve the treatment he was given by the media, he was perhaps out of his depth at national level but his club record was superb and who the hell has the right to portray him as a turnip? he was and is a good decent honest human being. The press in this country should be ashamed of how they hound, chastise and vilify our national team managers.

  13. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

Thank god. He is rubbish. He's had a couple of good months and this puts him as a England manager. No wonder our national side is a joke when we consider appionting people like Pardew.

From saalemnok, on Thu 9 Feb 20:12
  14. There's been a lot of speculation surrounding me and I just want to say that I need to concentrate on my job at shagchester rovers for now. @#$% off England.

  15. Breaking news, Kate Middleton, Nelson Mandela and Cliff Richard have also ruled themselves out as being next England manager.....

  16. After Keegan the press were demanding a continental manager to bring continental style to England, then after Erickson they were clamouring for an Englishman and we got McLaren, then he was a disaster, so they demanded a foreign coach again, then he was a disaster so what we need this time is an English manager blah blah blah, yawn yawn.
Change managers all you like, England will get NOWHERE with these muppets in the FA running things. Mike Basset England manager was the most acurate portrayal of the FA workings you'll ever see....they have no clue. The only people worse at picking managers than the FA are the press.

From Dean, on Thu 9 Feb 20:05
  17. Who's in their right mind would take this job !! don't touch it with a bargepole.

  18. I also rule myself out

From NaS, on Thu 9 Feb 19:40
  19. So funny that some muppet thumbed my comment #9 down when I am pointing out a fact. Try reading more than just a headline, most headlines posted on Yahoo don't even relate to the story fully.

From Cards Fan, on Thu 9 Feb 19:39
  20. If you bothered to actually read the article, Pardew makes it clear that in his own mind he is not even in the running. Do you think he installed himself as one of the favourites, according to the Yahoo drivel. Pardew has done a good job at Newcastle but he knows he is not England manager material. The job is a poison chalice anyway, and the team full of over the hill prima donna's.
