Northampton boss Stuart Gray was pleased to finally get one over on Walsall after his side had slumped to two defeats against them this season.Adebayo Akinfenwa scored both goals as Town secured a 2-0 win at Banks's Stadium to gain revenge for League One and FA Cup losses.
Gray said: "We could easily have gone one down when Tommy Mooney had a great chance, but straight from Mark Bunn's clearance Akinfenwa showed his physical strength to get our noses in front.
"I always felt comfortable, although it was a bit nervy in the last 10 minutes when Walsall started to throw people forward and got the ball forward early.
"There is a great work ethic in our team. The average age was far too high when I took over but now we have energy and legs in the team and a bit of experience too.
"We have taken three points off Walsall and now have three games against other teams in the top five - Swansea, Nottingham Forest and Carlisle."
