Oldham manager John Sheridan has not given up hope of reaching the play-offs after his side brushed aside Tranmere 3-1 at Boundary Park. The Latics took complete control of the contest with a two-goal blast in four minutes just before the break, with Neal Eardley scoring a penalty and Chris Taylor adding a fortunate second. Lewis Alessandra completed the scoring after Mike Jones had scored his first goal for Rovers to offer hope.
Sheridan said: "Tranmere are a strong side and don't concede many goals so to score three is very pleasing.
"We showed that even though we have a lot of young players we are a decent side ourselves. They've had to play more games than I would have liked, but we are still in a good position in the table.
"I can't give them a rest because I have no-one else to bring in. There is still a chance of the play-offs even though it's going to be difficult, but I want to finish as high as we possibly can.
"Not many teams in this division would do as well as our kids are doing. One or two upped their game and it showed."
