CRANS MONTANA, Switzerland (AFP) - Germany's Maria Riesch on Sunday won the World Cup super-combined title after placing second in Crans Montana behind Swede Anja Paerson.
Paerson, third after the downhill, clocked a combined 2min 30.60sec after the slalom, to finish 0.20sec ahead of Riesch with American Lindsey Vonn third at 0.26.
Riesch claims the first World Cup trophy of her career ahead of next weekend's finals in Bormio, Italy where she is also favourite to win the super-G crown.
She clinched the super-combined title with 260 points ahead of Vonn on 200.
Vonn could not hold on to first place from the morning's downhill run, but her third position allowed her to close the gap on Austria's Nicole Hosp in the overall World Cup standings. Hosp finished eighth.
Paerson now has 38 World Cup wins to her name as she became just the fourth woman in history to have won in all five alpine skiing disciplines.
Vonn, winner of Saturday's downhill and already assured of taking that title, is now poised to become the first American woman to win the overall World Cup title next week since Tamara McKinney 25 years ago.
And the US could be set for the double with Bode Miller in the running for the men's Crystal Globe.
"She (Vonn) has won the downhill globe - from the end of February in Whistler - and is going to win the overall. She can well leave me with the combined," joked Riesch.
