Great Britain's men booked their place at this summer's Beijing Olympics with a tense 2-0 victory over India in the final of the qualifying tournament in Chile.

Coach Jason Lee's side won all of their six matches in Santiago - where only one team could progress to the Games in China - and produced an efficient display to win the last and most important of them.

The men now join Britain's women, who had previously qualified from their performance at the European championships, but India miss out on the Olympics for the first time in their history.

Britain got off to the best possible start with two goals in the opening 10 minutes and from that position of strength they were able to control the game.

In the fourth minute East Grinstead's Ashley Jackson slipped a pass inside to former Cannock forward Barry Middleton who swept into an empty net from close range.

Six minutes later Reading defender and penalty corner specialist Richard Mantell's low drag flick beat the keeper to make it 2-0.

With less than two minutes of the half remaining Richard's brother Simon missed a great chance to put the game out of sight but fired wide from the top of the circle.

Midway through the second half Reading winger Jonty Clarke hit a post with a reverse-stick shot and despite both sides trading a number of penalty corners in the closing stages the scoreline remained unchanged and Britain made it through to Beijing.
