The Boston Bruins snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals, gaining some revenge for their worst loss of the year.
The Bruins, who suffered an embarrassing 10-2 loss to the Capitals in Washington on Monday, scored twice on a long 5-on-3 powerplay in the third period to pick up the win.
"We got pushed around the last time in Washington, and today we were ready for whatever happened," Bruins coach Claude Julien told reporters.
Washington opened the scoring at 6:17 of the first period through Brooks Laich on the powerplay.
Zdeno Chara tied the game at 14:59 and Marco Sturm potted the game-winner at 17:44, both Boston goals coming with the two-man advantage.
Marc Savard and David Krejci had helpers on both goals, while Alex Auld made 23 saves in goal.
Washington coach Bruce Boudreau was frustrated that his club missed a chance to move up in both the Eastern Conference overall standings and the Southeast Division standings.
Boudreau said: "We're angry that we lost a game we thought we should have won."
The Carolina Hurricanes moved seven points ahead of Washington in the Southeast Division with a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Scott Walker's overtime goal.
The Vancouver Canucks edged the St. Louis Blues 4-2.
The Philadelphia Flyers stayed hot with a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders, the Flyers' fifth win in seven games following their 10-game losing streak.
The New Jersey Devils earned a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Mike Fisher scored a pair of goals as the Ottawa Senators beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2.
Peter Forsberg picked up a pair of assists as the Colorado Avalanche rallied past the Dallas Stars 3-1.
The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Los Angeles Kings 5-2.
