Norway’s Tarjei Boe won his first individual title as he stormed to 20km gold at the IBU Biathlon World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk.
The 22-year-old has already demonstrated his ability by claiming 4x7.5km gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics and by opening the World Championships in Russia by helping Norway claim the mixed relay crown.
And the overall World Cup leader finally claimed his first individual title at the third time of asking following bronze finishes in the 10km sprint and 12.5km pursuit earlier in the week.
Boe crossed the line in 48:29.9 minutes, missing one shot on the way, and finished 40 seconds ahead of home favourite Maxim Maksimov and 45.5 seconds in front of Austrian Christoph Sumann.
Boe watched on in agony as it looked like double silver medallist from Vancouver Sumann would pip him to the gold but a miss on the final shot handed the crown to the Norwegian.
As for Great Britain, Lee Jackson finished inside the top 50 as his time of 53:31.9 minutes was good enough for 47th while Marcel Laponder was 90th, Peter Beyer 91st and Carl Gibson 104th.
