Chelsea have been dealt a further goalkeeping blow but boss Avram Grant has still set his sights on Champions League glory this season.Michael Ballack and Frank Lampard scored at the start and end of the second leg against Fenerbahce at Stamford Bridge, meaning they will meet Liverpool for the third time in four seasons at the semi-final stage of the competition.
Between the goals, Carlo Cudicini was forced off with a hamstring injury and joins Petr Cech on the sidelines following the first-choice goalkeeper's facial injury sustained in training.
Grant said: "The news is that is doesn't look so good for the moment with Carlo but we need to wait and see. It is his hamstring.
"This year I am more a doctor than a manager, I need to answer every week about injuries."
Hilario came off the bench and he was needed to save from Gokhan Gonul and Colin Kazim-Richards to keep Chelsea ahead on away goals following Ballack's fourth minute header.
The injury means Rhys Taylor, 18 earlier this week, could be on the bench against Wigan on Monday.
Grant added: "Hilario was good today. It is very important for a third goalkeeper when you need him, and we have needed him this year, for him to do a good job. It's not easy when you lose your goalkeeper.
"We Hilario and have the goalkeeper from the youth team. He is a good goalkeeper."
Despite the late jitters, Lampard wrapped up victory with three minutes remaining, leaving Chelsea fans and Grant thinking about glory at the final in Moscow if they beat Liverpool.
Grant added: "Of course I believe. I am optimistic by nature. I believed that when I received the team after the draw against Rosenborg here and there were five teams ahead of us in the league and I don't know how many points.
"I said that we could do good things this year. Now we are close. So of course."
Liverpool have defeated Chelsea in the last two Champions League semi-finals they have faced each other in, with another mouth-watering encounter expected.
"This is the first news they told me, that is was Liverpool in the semi-finals," Grant said.
"The one thing I always wanted to know is the future. I don't know the future but we will do our best to be in the final."
He added: "I feel good because our target was to be in the semi-final of the Champions League and we did it.
"It was not so easy. In Fenerbahce we played better than we did tonight. It was a nervous game and we defended well because they didn't create chances.
"But the most important thing was the result and that was good for us.
One sour note was Michael Essien picking up a booking for dissent, meaning he will miss the first leg against Liverpool.
Grant said: "It's a bit disappointing but it has happened. It's not good that he will miss the next game but it is a fact and we cannot do anything about it."
After rattling Chelsea over two legs, Fenerbahce boss Zico was pleased with the efforts of his players.
The Brazilian said: "The players showed discipline and enthusiasm, they did as much as they could do and showed great character. We are very sorry we could not continue this journey."
