Millwall striker Tom Brighton has signed a pre-contract agreement with St Mirren and will join the SPL side on a two-year deal.St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson swooped for the former Clyde star as he pushed forward with his plans for next season.
MacPherson believes the versatile 24-year-old will have benefited from his two years in England with Millwall and can make a major impression in the SPL next season.
MacPherson said: "Tom went down to Millwall after a fantastic season with Clyde. We played against him when we were in the First Division and saw what he can offer.
"He's a left-sided striker and we're delighted to have strengthened in that area. We've identified areas that we need to strengthen and we're trying to bring in personnel.
"Tom has pace and can play in two or three positions. Any player we try to bring in needs to have flexibility, especially as we're tightening the squad up. Tom certainly has that.
"I'm sure he'll have learned from his time in England. It was probably a frustrating experience for him but it'll be an experience he's learned from.
"He's coming back up with still a lot to prove, to show people what he's capable of doing and we'll give him that platform.
"He's still a young kid with his best years ahead of him. He's had a good grounding and with a bit of luck he an be a success."
MacPherson has already added Jack Ross from Falkirk to his squad for next season and is confident more new arrivals will follow.
But he will not be offering a deal to Craig Rocastle following the midfielder's trial.
St Mirren face Gretna at Love Street on Saturday in a match that could see the bottom club playing their last away game.
Administrator David Elliot of Wilson Field has set a May 17 deadline for interested parties to buy the club.
"We have got four interested parties and I would like to remain hopeful that one will come through before the end of the season," he said.
"We have funds until May 17 and at that point, to be quite frank, we stop.
"I would like to think that we would get it away before that date."
