Shaw: Harris deserves new contract

Fri 09 May, 03:15 PM

Millwall veteran Richard Shaw has backed manager Kenny Jackett's U-turn in offering Neil Harris a new contract with the League One outfit.Harris was told he did not have a future at the club in February but his performances since then persuaded Jackett to have a change of heart and offer the popular striker a new 12-month contract.

"If we had had 11 Neil Harris' on the pitch this season we would have been nowhere near relegation," Shaw, who has been offered a coaching role at the Den, told the South London Press.

"He has behaved in a fantastically professional manner since being told he was no longer required. He has been an unbelievable example of how a professional should conduct himself.

"I am delighted he has been offered a new deal. I would offer him a two-year deal and a testimonial - he deserves it."
