Cardiff Blues secured runners-up spot in the Magners League with a 26-17 win at Ulster marred by an Achilles injury that prematurely ended the career of David Humphreys.

Ulster 17-26 Blues

Humphreys limped off after only eight minutes of the match, his last in professional rugby.

Justin Harrison, Tommy Bowe, Neil Best, Roger Wilson and Mark Bartholomeusz were also playing their final games for Ulster.

Maama Molitika's try put the visitors ahead but Tommy Bowe and Simon Danielli put Ulster 12-7 up at half-time.

Roger Davies and James Down also touched down for Blues, and Molitika's second sealed the win after Paddy Wallace replied for Ulster.

The bonus point for scoring four tries ensured Blues held onto second place in the league.

Dragons 31-26 Leinster

Newport Gwent Dragons beat champions Leinster 31-26 in one of the more entertaining Celtic League matches this season at Rodney Parade.

In what was ultimately a dead rubber match - the Dragons have already secured a Heineken Cup berth - the Welsh scored eight tries to avenge a 41-8 drubbing in the reverse fixture the previous weekend.

The home centres caused the damage in two opening moves that set the tone for the match. Rhodri Gomer-Davies retrieved a chip over the Leinster back division with a brilliant one-handed catch which allowed hooker Steve Jones to find space on the right for the first touchdown.

Gomer-Davies's partner, Phil Dollman, then shimmied past the Leinster midfield before laying it off to scrum-half Wayne Evans to touch down.

Dragons picked up a bonus point four scoring four tries and held on for the win despite a valiant fightback by the Irish side, who scored tries through Girvan Dempsey and two by Michael Berne.

Connacht 24-20 Ospreys

The Ospreys finished their campaign without a single away win as they lost to bottom club Connacht at the Sportsground.

Ofisa Treviranus' 19th-minute try helped Connacht lead 10-0 at the break with Andy Dunne notching five points.

Keith Matthews scored two second-half tries for Connacht but they also had Conor McPhillips sent off in his final game for the club after a straight-arm challenge.

Tries from Kristian Phillips and Martin Roberts helped reduced Connacht's lead but the Irish province held on.

The Connacht victory gave retiring duo Matt Mostyn and Darren Yapp a winning send-off.
