Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has vowed to persevere with his transfer policy rather than spending "magic money" in the summer.
The Frenchman is renowned for drafting in young talent rather than splashing the cash on proven star names but, with the club again set to finish the season trophyless, there have been calls from fans for a change this year.
Wenger, though, has no plans to follow the likes of Chelsea's lead and said: "We are all very down and frustrated but it is not down to spending money. It is down to sticking with our policy."
He added: "Chelsea have spent magic money and still not won the European Cup. I believe our team has developed well but at the moment we are still a bit short.
"Of course I'll try to bring in one or two in the summer and whoever we get will not be short of experience.
"But the priority is to stay with the squad we have.
"What am I supposed to do, kick out a quality young player like Walcott, Fabregas, Diaby or Bendtner who is already in his national team?"
Wenger also dismissed Emmanuel Adebayor's comments that the team had gone backwards this term.
"I don't take much notice of the comments of the players. They're not coaches. They are responsible for their own performance and not an assessment of the team.
"Players at any club say they want to sign big names but never say they need someone in their position."

Get rid of Bendtner. He is one uncoordinated blonde. Use Eduardo Da Silva and put Van Persie on the bench.....his time is up and he is not performing at all. Replace Adebayor with a new striker as has no passion for the club....get rid of him and bring in David Villa. Put Walcott and Nasri on the wings, Fabregas and Arshavin in midfield. Backline is ok but would be a dream if Arsenal can bring in Yaya Toure to play in front of his brother and also get rid of Silvestre.... his passing of the ball is horrible.
GREEDY MISER.
I say the centre back situation needs to be sorted out but don't forget Toure cost 150k when he was signed so an experienced (but pacey) player there. Let's retain Gallas and sign a new full back as cover for Sagna/Clichy/Gibbs (but let's keep Gibbs in the team). Sell Bendtner, he's not good enough. Let Vela, Walcott and Eduardo be the back ups for the first team.
IF YOU WANT TO SPEND LIKE CHELSEA AND STILL GET F-ALL THEN GREAT
BUT AS FAR AS QUALITY FOR THE OUTLAY ARSENAL MUST BE ABOUT TOPS
NO I DO NOT SUPPORT ARSENAL NOT BY A LONG WAY
ANY WAY MAN CITY WILL BE THE SPEND SPEND SPEND CLUB LETS SEE WHAT THEY WIN
WITH ALL THE CASH THEY HAVE
WENGER IS A TOP TOP MANAGER YOU ARE LUCKY TO HAVE HIM
As a true Arsenal fan, I think there is a lot of confusion regarding happenings at the emirates. I agree with Wengers policy and I think it cannot be denied that it works. That said, it is true that we need a couple of decent defenders and a 'gattuso' in midfield.
The major problem that Arsenal face is that 95% of the team don't give a @#$% about Arsenal F.C. They don't play for the shirt. You have players like Wayne Rooney who openly state that they would like to see out their careers at their clubs; I cant think of one Arsenal player who would make such a statement.
On a slightly more positive note, things may well be different next season when the Russian Magician will be with us from the start of the season...
Fink bout it we r a young team wiv not a lot of experense players and yet we r still in tht top 4, that says alot teams lk tottenham have experences players and yet they dnt make the top 4. So in a matter of fact we r doin great i no we aint winnin anyfin recently but for such a young team lk ours and 2 be in thje top 4 is a achievent i am sure if some1 lk chelsea had young players lk ours they would not even b e in the top4 soo all my credit does go out to arsene wenger and the whole arsenal team
He'll sign nobody cause he's goin 2 Madrid and you lot are goin 2 mid table were u belong! Forever up ur ARSEnal!
Football like everything is cyclical. Liverpool, MU and Chelsea are not going to be spending like they have because they are all faced with mountains of debt they is NOT going away. The next few years should see them come down a bit and Arsenal get better as the team gains experience. That said, a couple more defenders and a holding midfielder with experience would do the trick and cover for any injuries. Do it Wenger
show me the money
though wenger will not spend moutains of cash this summer and what he does spend will be on yonger players
like he has done in the past but just think in two or three years all the other top teams will be spending like crazy getting deep into debt some going bust and arsenal will have a team that has played together and will start to win trophies well that is the idea behind the thinking arsenal can not spend what they dont have it is no good shouting out that they should buy big names they just have not got the cash to buy with as they are still paying for the stadium
at least he thinks about what he is buying
and arsenal aren't in debt but they are still in the top four
and this close to trophies
another season and the right (not necessarily expensive) buys will get us known
then all you people who support man u and chelsea will want to swallow your words
if you haven't noticed i haven't criticised liverpool
wenger has a good eye for tallent because he bought Arshavin and Nasri now if he worried less about their cost and bought more like them then arsenal could become a driving force of the Premiership again
comment 19 you are spot on !! he has bought @#$% in the past we will win nothing without 2-3 senior players
with lots of experience look mr wenger you will win nothing with no 7 18 25 27 28 all @#$%! and how much are they on a week£££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ £££££££££££££££££££
are they worth it nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnno
I think that Arseanl should sign DONNYSBECK
As long as he can hold onto the kids at the club now they should be fine. Arsenal have a solid team now, they just need for them to get the experience and develop into the world beaters they're gonna become and not allow them to get poached by other clubs as they're doing it.
Oh come on Mr Wenger change the bloody record, you have been coming out with this @#$% for the past 4 years, which happens to be the last time that we won a trophy, Arsenal Football club and their fans demand and deserve success.
Whilst 60,000 mug punters are putting their bums on seats at the Emirates every fortnight the board of directors are happy, their definition of success can be determined by the ammount of money that they have in their bank accounts.
WE ARE THE 3RD RICHEST FOOTBALL TEAM IN THE WORLD, START USING YOUR RESOURCES TO MAKE US GREAT AGAIN, 4TH IN THE lEAGUE, THE LAST 4 IN BOTH THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND THE F.A.CUP IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
Oh please Mr Wenger change the bloody record, you have been coming out with this @#$% for the last 4 years which happens to be the last time that we won anything, Arsenal supportes demand success. Whilst 60,000 mug punters are putting their bums on seats every fortnight at the Emirates the board of directors are happy, their concept of success depends on the size of their bank balance.
AFC still rule London football and as long as we keep Arsene Wenger at the club the team will improve from season to season. No worries :) jus looking forward to another season already.... onwards & upwards B.I.O (BRING IT ON)
ok maybe chelsea spend more money and we are doing better than arsenal. arsenal just more like outsiders compared to the top 3. maybe we havent won many trophies but we were abit unliky as for arsenal i think they got a lot of talent and when they mature into big players in few years time they are going to be a very very good team i think.
dont know whats wrong with arsenal fc they get in people like wenger and graham to manage the club plus there two a like there afaird too spend money on players the only manger that spent money was bruce rioch and they got get of him after a few weeks says it all really wenger is a yes man
