Ipswich have refused to make any comment on reports suggesting Newcastle have accepted a £4million bid for wantaway striker Shola Ameobi.Former England Under-21 international Ameobi, 26, made just eight appearances for the Magpies last term and was dispatched to promotion-destined Stoke on loan for the final three months of the season.
However, the 6ft 2in striker has been the subject of constant media speculation since his return to St James' Park linking him with moves to East Anglian rivals Ipswich and Norwich as well as a possible move to Major League Soccer in America.
But a statement on the Tractor Boys' official website read: "We are aware of reports today linking Ipswich Town Football Club with Shola Ameobi but we will not be making any comment on the matter."
Meanwhile Ameobi's agent has confirmed that his client would welcome a move to Town's local rivals Norwich if they make a bid.
"He's not going to the MLS, that's not an option we're looking at. We've had no contact from Middlesbrough and no offer in from Norwich City," Steven Denos told the Pink'Un.
"Shola worked well with Glenn at Newcastle and that's what everyone must be thinking. One thing for certain is that Newcastle would want a hefty transfer fee for him," added Denos.
"It's certainly something we would consider if Norwich approached us, we consider everything. But Norwich haven't done anything yet. If Glenn Roeder decides he'd like to take it further then we'll have a conversation."
