Mon 09 Jun, 06:30 PM

New Southampton boss Jan Poortvliet has yet to decide how many more players he needs to add to the squad at St Mary's.Poortvliet has already overseen the arrivals of Derby midfielder Lee Holmes and veteran Luton defender Chris Perry, who impressed while on loan with Saints towards the end of last season.

But the Dutchman, who has yet to officially join Southampton due to a compensation wrangle with his former club Helmond Sport, wants to give the rest of the squad a chance to impress.

"I don't know how many more signings I need to make," he said.

"I have to watch the players, give them a chance and work with them, and then I will know what we need."

Poortvliet has already had a brief glimpse of Saints striker Marek Saganowski, who came off the bench for the final 15 minutes of Poland's 2-0 defeat by Germany in Euro 2008.
